In Memoriam

Elizabeth Franz, who was known to daytime fans for playing Alma Rudder on AW and Helen Wendall on As the World Turns, passed away on November 4, at the age of 84. She also was a 1999 Tony-Award winner for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play for her role as Linda Loman — opposite Brian Dennehy’s Willy — in the 50th anniversary production of Death of a Salesman. According to The New York Times, the cause of death was cancer, complicated by a severe reaction to drugs being used to treat her. She leaves behind her screenwriter husband Christopher Pelham.

Sally Kirkland passed away November 11, at the age of 84, following her battle with dementia. The actress, who was known for movie roles like Anna (for which she was nominated for an Oscar and won a Golden Globe), The Sting, JFK, and A Star Is Born (1976 version), and the TV series Valley of the Dolls, was also known to daytime fans for her recurring role as Tracey Simpson on DAYS in 1999. Frances Fisher (ex-Suzette, Guiding Light) paid tribute to her longtime friend on Instagram, writing, “Beloved Sally ✨ I never heard her say a negative thing…. about anybody. That is her gift. Sally Kirkland’s talent was a clear and present revelation. In the moment. Truthful. Striving for ever-more. She helped people. Listened to them. Prayed for them. We met when I became a member of the Actors Studio and we worked on scenes together. The sky was the limit. Sally’s loving friendship of 45 years makes my heart ache for just one more conversation about things that matter.

Eric Preven, a producer from the soap Santa Barbara, passed away on November 8, most likely from a heart attack, according to family members, at the age of 62. He went on to write and produce on Boston Common, Popular and Reba.
