The Young and the Restless Fall Preview: Victor Goes Nuclear, New Trouble for Cane & Lily and More
What does fall have in store on The Young and the Restless? Unexpected new romances and big obstacles for established couples, according to a new interview with Executive Producer Sally McDonald.
Billy, Sally and Adam
McDonald gave TV Insider a glimpse into what the show is planning as autumn unfolds, and she noted that some particularly big challenges will be headed Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and Sally Spectra’s (Courtney Hope) way in the build-up to their wedding, which will take place in October — and one of them is named Adam (Mark Grossman). “Adam and Sally always seem to find their lives intertwined whether they like it or not, and this fall will be no different,” said McDonald.
Also in the mix? Billy’s sisters, Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and Traci (Beth Maitland), who have strong — but opposing — feelings about their brother’s choice of life partner.
Victor and Nikki, Jack and Diane
Victor (Eric Braeden) and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) Newman’s marriage is back on track, and Victor has some romantic surprises in store for his beloved. But McDonald teased that a business opportunity Victor presents to Nikki “may serve as an ulterior motive for causing havoc for Jack [Peter Bergman].”
Speaking of Jack — neither he nor his wife, Diane (Susan Walters), are in the clear quite yet when it comes to his deranged ex, Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk). As a result, McDonald made it sound like Jack will take control to eliminate Patty as a threat “once and for all.”
Diane, meanwhile, believes that the issues in her marriage to Jack are all Nikki’s fault. McDonald said Diane is “losing patience” with her husband’s continuing bond of friendship with the other woman.
Kyle and Victoria
Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) have already proven that they lack the willpower to limit their sexual encounter to a one-time thing. As they continue to sleep together, keeping that a secret is of the utmost importance — and that “only adds to the attraction” between them, shared McDonald.
Lily and Cane
A secret will also be at play in Cane (Billy Flynn) and Lily’s (Christel Khalil) renewed romance. McDonald warned that while the couple is in a good place right now, “a secret from Lily’s past may put the brakes on a future together.”
Nate and Stephanie
A love connection is brewing between Nate (Sean Dominic) and Stephanie (Vivica A. Fox). The surprise duo has already shared a kiss — and McDonald made it sound like that’s only the beginning as she noted that “Stephanie and Nate will be concerned [about] Holden’s [Nathan Owens] reaction to their relationship.”
Phyllis and Matt, Nick and Sharon
Another pair of controversial lovers, Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) and Matt Clark (Roger Howarth), will have a momentous fall. McDonald revealed that Phyllis is going to score a win that forces her to make a decision about Matt’s role in her life.
Also interested in Matt’s future, albeit for an entirely different reason, is Victor. McDonald explained that Victor is going to insert himself into Matt’s life even more than he already has to make sure that nothing will threaten Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) hard-fought sobriety.
Opposite this, Sharon (Sharon Case) is concerned that Nick’s recovery will be threatened by his involvement with Marie Kirkland (Jade Harlow)… and she may have very good reason.
Family Ties
McDonald also previewed that Danny (Michael Damian) is going to try to help his son, Daniel (Michael Graziadei), repair his fractured relationship with his mom, Phyllis. Meanwhile, Devon (Bryton James) and Abby’s (Melissa Ordway) marriage “will be tested” as Devon just can’t get past the lingering guilt he feels about the kidnapping of their son, Dominic, leading Abby to turn to “someone from her past,” said McDonald. Daniel, we presume?
