GUIDING LIGHT FeaturesShayne Lewis Timeline— By Danielle McClure
GL's Shayne returns to the canvas this week after spending the last few years in Afghanistan. Now played by AMC alum Jeff Branson (ex-Jonathan), he's not the same lovelorn sweetie he used to be. How much do you really know about Josh and Reva's son?
1990: Joshua Shayne Lewis was born on February 19. Reva suffered from a severe case of postpartum depression after his birth and drove herself off a bridge to her presumed death in Florida while he was still an infant. 1995: Shayne grew close to Josh's new wife, Annie, and treated her like his own mother. He initially rejected Reva's love when she returned to Springfield. When Josh and Annie announced their divorce, Shayne was not happy, despite Annie's frequently drunken behavior and erratic pill-popping episodes. 1996: During Alan's attempt to destroy Fifth Street for a new development, Shayne was injured in the demolition of an old building. Josh rescued his son from the wreckage, and the tragic event brought Reva and Josh closer together. 1998: Shayne and Marah were both kidnapped by Holly, the Nursery Rhyme Stalker, but were rescued. 1999: Shayne was stunned when he learned he had a half brother (Jonathan), who was born during Reva's missing years in San Cristobel, but vowed to support his mom through the ordeal.
2000: Shayne disapproved of his sister's romance with bad boy Tony Santos. He and Marah both ended up getting busted for having pirated CDs (that Tony made) during a trip to the see their favorite band NuGround perform in Chicago. 2001: Shayne thought he'd ruined one of Reva's beloved paintings, but discovered another picture underneath it that helped her travel through time. 2002: Now a teenager, Shayne developed an unrequited crush on childhood pal Marina Cooper after he helped her when she got busted for shoplifting. Shayne and Marina started dating and he rescued her from serial killer Ben Reade, who'd kidnapped her and held her hostage in the Bauer cabin. Ben attacked Shayne and threatened to kill him before committing suicide. 2003: Shayne celebrated his 18th birthday (GL altered his birth date to 1985). He faced the difficult choice of accepting a college scholarship to play baseball at Stanford or enter the draft and play professionally. Behind Shayne's back, Josh entered his son in the draft and he was picked to play for the Chicago Cubs, which created tension between the father and son. The night before he was scheduled to meet with the Cubs manager, Shayne suffered permanent spinal damage (and temporary paralysis of his legs) in a car accident. It was later revealed that Josh was driving the car that hit Shayne, who'd disobeyed his father by attending a concert without permission. Josh was rushing to retrieve Shayne, who was already on his way home when the automobiles collided.
2004: Shayne went through severe depression and intense rehabilitation, including surgery. He eventually regained use of his legs. His relationship with Marina grew and they had sex for the first time. After Marina developed feelings for Sandy, Shayne decided he needed a change and moved abroad to start a Peace Corps organization. He asked Marina to join him, but she stayed behind. 2006-2008: Shayne remained in contact with his family via phone calls around the holidays. He didn't show up in New York for the family reunion when Reva believed she was dying of cancer, but Shayne did connect with Josh in 2007 when he was sentenced to prison for shooting Alan.
