In 1985, Nancy Lee Grahn made her Santa Barbara debut as Julia Wainwright. The actress, who won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress for the role (tying with Debbi Morgan, who was honored for her portrayal of Angie Hubbard on All My Children), had previously appeared on One Life to Live as Beverly Wilkes. "No role I was offered before or after was ever as divine as Julia," Grahn told Soap Opera Digest in 2023 of her SB alter ego, a feisty and neurotic attorney. She remained with the show until it went off the air in 1993.

In 1994, Kristian Alfonso (l., pictured with Julianne Morris as Greta Von Amberg) returned to Days of Our Lives after a 4-year absence as Hope Williams Brady, who at the time was amnesiac. Hope had been presumed dead back in 1990, courtesy of evil Ernesto Toscano. While Hope's "widower," Bo, was not immediately convinced that his wife had miraculously returned from the dead, the arrival of "Gina" certainly threw a monkey wrench into Bo's romance with Billie Reed.
