General Hospital: Ethan’s Connection to Delilah, Baby Phoebe’s Mother, Revealed!
When Ethan (Nathan Dean) returned to Port Charles in the April 17 episode, he was seen leaving a message for someone asking to meet up at Pier 55 and vowing to be there every day at noon. Then, in the May 5 episode, viewers saw him leaving another message, but this time mentioning her name: Delilah.
Connect the Dots
Delilah is the name of the young woman who died after giving birth to the baby that Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Chase (Josh Swickard) are currently fostering, who they dubbed Phoebe. Lily Cardone played the role in March, when Delilah first appeared on the scene. Brook Lynn and Chase found the pregnant woman lying in the street and rushed her to the hospital, where she sadly passed away after undergoing an emergency C-section to save the life of her baby.
There were no clues to her identity in her purse, and the PCPD was unable to learn anything more about her — or locate any of her relatives. Chase and Brook Lynn applied to foster Delilah’s newborn and are fervently hoping that they will be able to adopt her.
Since Ethan showed up in Port Charles last month, he has dodged questions about his true reasons for having returned to town. Unaware that the woman he is trying to contact is dead, Ethan left another message for her while pacing around the dock, clearly having grown more concerned with each passing day that he hasn’t heard from her. “You need to show up,” he said in his voicemail, “because I can’t help you if you don’t, okay?”
Ethan later met up with Tracy (Jane Elliot), who voiced her fears for his safety in light of his decision to work for Sonny (Maurice Benard) and pressed her former stepson about what had prompted his sudden return. “I was supposed to meet up with someone,” Ethan confided. He explained that he had been “working a job with a partner,” adding that “the details don’t matter.” Ethan lamented that they were supposed to connect in Port Charles, “But she hasn’t shown up yet.”
Following his conversation with Tracy, Ethan ran into Brook Lynn, Chase and their little bundle of joy. Chase clarified they were only fostering, and Brook Lynn explained that Phoebe’s mother had died, and all they knew about her was her name: Delilah Wilson. At the mention of Delilah, Ethan struggled to maintain his composure.
Hey There Delilah
While GH has now revealed that Ethan is connected to Delilah, the nature of that connection remains a mystery. Was Delilah merely his partner in crime, or did they have a personal involvement, as well? How frantic he has been to connect with her, and his stated desire to help her, would seem to suggest a deeper bond than that of co-conspirators.
The million-dollar question, of course, is whether Ethan is the father of Delilah’s baby. If he is, that would give Delilah several biological relatives that are already established on the canvas. On Ethan’s late father Luke’s (Anthony Geary) side, that is an aunt in Lulu (Alexa Havins), and cousins in Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) and Rocco (Finn Carr) as well as Aiden (Colin Cassidy), Liz’s (Rebecca Herbst) son by Ethan’s brother Lucky (Jonathan Jackson). On Ethan’s mom Holly’s (Emma Samms) side, the baby girl would have an aunt in Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) and a cousin in Daisy, Sasha’s daughter with Michael (Rory Gibson) — who just so happens to live under the same roof as Chase and Brook Lynn.
Would Ethan try to challenge Brook Lynn and Chase for custody of Phoebe, giving up his lifestyle of gallivanting around the globe running cons? If a battle did ensue, whose side would Tracy take, Luke’s son or her own granddaughter’s?
Hopefully, the reveal of Ethan’s connection to Delilah means that viewers will finally get some answers about why she was in Port Charles and refused to say anything about who she was. And maybe Ethan will also shed light on that mysterious tattoo viewers saw on Delilah’s wrist in the hospital.
