Beyond the Gates’s Marquita Goings Reacts to Hayley Getting Busted
Nearly a year after Beyond the Gates viewers learned that Hayley Hamilton was poisoning her husband, Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett), the sexy schemer was finally busted — and arrested — for her crime last week, marking a major turning point not only for Hayley, but for actress Marquita Goings, who had been playing out the lengthy storyline since the show’s early days.
“It did feel like a lot of pressure,” Goings told TV Insider of filming the dramatic scenes of Hayley’s showdown with Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley) and subsequent arrest. “It has been a year, almost, that she’s been poisoning Bill, so I wanted to make sure that I delivered in a way that was striking, but also still staying true to Hayley.”
Marquita Goings On Hayley’s Downfall
Goings shared that she got a heads-up months ago that Hayley would eventually be caught — but the character herself was blindsided when her house of cards crashed down around her.
The actress believes Hayley had grown too comfortable — and too confident after managing to deceive Bill for so long. “I feel like Hayley did get a little arrogant,” she said.
Hayley only began to grasp the seriousness of the situation after she was detained and realized that the bottle of poison could expose what she had been doing. That’s when, Goings noted, “She really started to panic.”
With the walls closing in, Hayley tried to rely on the tactics that had worked for her before, making one last attempt to manipulate Bill into believing she was still the wife he knew. That failed, too.
Goings says Hayley was essentially scrambling to find a way out, particularly because she has precious few people she can turn to now that her relationship with Bill has collapsed — and with it, her access to his bank account.
Though Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) unexpectedly bailed Hayley out and she is grateful to be free, Goings pointed out that Hayley is savvy enough to know the gesture likely didn’t come from the goodness of Leslie’s heart. “What comes with Leslie bailing her out?” she wondered.
Goings knows that fans are already speculating about whether Hayley will actually do time, or if she’ll find a way to beat the charges, thus allowing the actress to remain on the show, and teased, “I would just hang tight. I love the twists and turns that the writers have written.”
In the meantime, she’s grateful that viewers had so much interest in Hayley’s downfall. “It’s really nice to see that a lot of people have been waiting for this moment,” she said. “I’ve seen some visual reactions to where they’re watching it and screaming at the TV, so that’s been nice to see as well.”
