Exclusive: Bluesy Burke Is Not Leaving General Hospital as Charlotte, Executive Producer Confirms
On the September 28 episode of General Hospital, Charlotte Cassadine headed off to boarding school in Maine, the consequence of her risky scheme to use herself as bait to get blackmail material on Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison). The character was written out of Port Charles because the actress who plays her, Bluesy Burke, is herself going to college out of state. But Burke is not making a permanent exit from the show, GH Executive Producer Frank Valentini tells Soap Opera Digest exclusively.
Bluesy Burke’s GH Exit Is Only Temporary
Valentini says, “Bluesy is still a part of the General Hospital family, and we worked it out so that she will come back on her holidays and school breaks,” and adds, “We are incredibly proud of her as she begins this exciting new chapter and starts her college journey.”
When Burke assumed the role of Charlotte in September 2025, she became the third actress to play the headstrong daughter of Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins) and Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart).
The young actress was also, at the time, a high school senior navigating the college application process, and Burke tells Digest that even after getting into “a few very good schools,” she “strongly considered” delaying college so that she could remain at General Hospital.
“I love my job and I didn’t want to leave it,” Burke explains. “But I spoke to Frank and just kind of laid it all out there and let him know what my situation was and he was in full support of me going to college. When I told him I was thinking of taking a gap year, he was like, ‘No, you have to go to college, that’s so important and we will be here for you.'”
Knowing that the role of Charlotte would be kept open for her, Burke beams, “meant the world to me, and really made me feel better about making the decision.”
In fact, on her final day of taping, Burke’s goodbyes with Valentini were focused on when she would next be available to film. “He was already talking about, when could I possibly come back?” the actress recalls. “And that was very comforting, because obviously, I do want to come back!”
The show had a similar arrangement with another popular actress, Kimberly McCullough, who played Robin Scorpio. When McCullough enrolled at New York University in 1996, Robin went off to Yale, with McCullough returning to California to film new episodes during her school breaks. She eventually returned to the show returned full-time, though she left as a contract player in 2012.
