Maxie Gave Birth to Georgie on General Hospital and Other Big Moments From August 21 in Soap History

In 2013, General Hospital’s Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) gave birth to her daughter with Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson), Georgie Spinelli. Of course, at the time, the little girl was named Connie by her presumed parents, Lulu and Dante. Maxie had offered to serve as a surrogate for Lulu and Dante, since Lulu was unable to carry a child to term. But after miscarrying the embryo she was carrying for the couple, she and Spinelli made love, conceiving Georgie, and Maxie kept mum about the baby's true biological parentage throughout her pregnancy. Maxie had to deliver via emergency C-section, and she tried to conceal her heartbreak as Lulu reacted in awe to the site of the baby girl and cut the umbilical cord. "I'm a dad," marveled Dante to Spinelli after catching his first glimpse of the newborn.

In 2017, Days of Our Lives' Abigail Deveraux (Marci Miller) and Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) got engaged again. Their first marriage took place in 2016, but ended in divorce the next year. Happily, the couple found their way back to one another and they said, "I do" again in October — but tragically, she was murdered in 2022.

In 2018, Jonah’s funeral was held on General Hospital. Little did the boy's father, Michael (then-Chad Duell, shown being comforted by, l. to r., Eden McCoy's Josslyn, Steve Burton's Jason and Lexi Ainsworth's Kristina), know that he was actually alive, and had been handed over to Brad Cooper by his birth mother, Nelle Benson. It was actually Willow's biological son by Shiloh that had tragically passed away. It took some time, but the truth ultimately came out and Michael reclaimed his son, who Willow then adopted.

In 2018, Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) and Hope Logan (Annika Noelle) wed on Bold and Beautiful. The service was officiated by (who else?!) Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor). As he commenced the wedding, Carter intoned, "This ceremony is more than just a celebration of Liam and Hope's love, but the celebration of love in all its forms. In families. Between children and parents. That's the power that draws us together. It inspires us to live our lives with courage and compassion. The Greek playwright Sophocles says, 'One word can free us of the weight and pain of our lives, and that word is love.' In that spirit, we're gathered here today." Wyatt Spencer was the best man, while the mother of the bride, Brooke Logan, stood up for her daughter. Guests like Eric and Quinn Forrester offered words of marital wisdom to the happy couple. The bride told her groom, "Liam, I am so happy right now, standing here with you, with all the support of our friends and family, and knowing that this is just the beginning. We're just gonna get happier from here when we start our life together, when our baby is born. And so, at the start of our married life, I would like to remember and honor everything that brought us here. Because it wasn't an easy road but it led us to this moment. And I am grateful for all the lessons that we learned and how we grew as people and as a family, and I want that to continue. So this is my promise to you to have an open heart and an open mind. To have faith in you and in us, in our future, when we face adversity. To love you for exactly who you are. My husband. Devoted to me, but also devoted to your children. In 2024 on Young and Restless, Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) fired Lily Winters (Christel Khalil), his former lover. He summoned her by claiming to want to discuss the press release they had been clashing over. When she realized that had been a pretense, she was irritated and reminded him that her time was valuable. Billy shot back that she would soon have more free time and let her know he was going to go solo at the helm of Abbott-Chancellor — her services were no longer required. Explained Thompson to Soap Opera Digest of his character's decision, "He's coming around to the idea that Lily could betray him. It's not far off to understand that would happen. He really wanted to trust Lily and partner with her and really knock it out of the park. He really does believe in her instincts and her capabilities as a person.... He believes in her ability but I think it becomes pretty clear that she's not being above board and that she's being dishonest to him. They were committed to doing it together, so when it starts to unravel, it's pretty disheartening and then at that point, he has to figure out what action he has to do in a self–preservation kind of way.”
