The Young and the Restless’ First Jill Brenda Dickson Arrested for Battery

Comments

Actress Brenda Dickson, who originated the role of Jill Foster Abbott on The Young and the Restless, was arrested for battery earlier this month, according to TMZ.

Why Was Brenda Dickson Arrested?

TMZ reports Dickson was arrested and booked July 9 on a charge of misdemeanor battery on a person, citing the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office. She was reportedly released the same day on her own recognizance.

TMZ also cites law enforcement sources who say LAPD officers responded to a call at a Hollywood location the night of July 8 for a battery investigation, and that Dickson was taken into custody after officers were told she allegedly battered someone.

Further details — such as who the alleged victim is, what their relationship is to Dickson, and what led to the reported incident — were not provided.

Dickson became a soap opera icon when she burst onto the Y&R canvas in 1973, the year of its debut, as Jill, who became Katherine Chancellor’s (Jeanne Cooper) manicurist and, later, her competition for the affections of Kay’s husband, Phillip Chancellor, setting up the storied rivalry between the two women that lasted for decades. She left the show in 1980, returning from 1983-87 and earning two Soap Opera Digest Award nominations for Outstanding Villainess.

In addition to her work on Y&R, Dickson has had roles on shows including Falcon CrestThe F.B.I., and Love, American Style.

This is not the first time that Dickson’s personal life has made headline news. In 2007, the actress spent several months in jail in Hawaii due to a civil contempt order surrounding her divorce from her second husband, Jan Weinberg, though she maintained that she had not been given a fair divorce hearing. In 2009, an appeals court agreed with her and vacated the judgment against her after determining that the judge had not guaranteed Dickson a fair trial.
