The Young and the Restless: Eric Braeden on Victor’s Suspicions of Nikki and Jack, Beyond the Gates Crossover
The upcoming crossover between Beyond the Gates and The Young and the Restless will bring Victor Newman to Fairmont Crest for a gala event — and in a new interview discussing the special episodes, Victor’s portrayer, Eric Braeden, also weighed in on the ongoing tension in Victor’s marriage to Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott).
The Y&R superstar spoke to TV Insider about traveling to Atlanta to film the crossover event, which airs during BTG’s week of June 8 episodes, and explained why Victor remains unable to move past Nikki’s connection to Jack Abbott.
The Visitors
Braeden joins fellow Y&R stars Peter Bergman (Jack), Susan Walters (Diane), Michael Mealor (Kyle), Bryton James (Devon) and Melissa Ordway (Abby) for the crossover event. The Genoa City contingent attends a political fundraiser hosted by BTG’s Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon), whose family shares ties to Victor through Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis).
As teased in the promo for the event, the party guests will also find themselves caught in a dangerous tornado.
When the crossover was first proposed, Braeden shared, he was happy to travel to the BTG studio in Atlanta, GA, to take part in the episodes. “Danielle Unger [vice president of current programming, CBS] asked me, and I like and respect her, and I said, ‘OK,’” he reported. “I think a Black soap is sorely needed; it’s about time, so I said, ‘Let’s go.’”
Braeden said he enjoyed working with the cast and crew of Beyond the Gates and was impressed by the quality of its production — but the CBS legend was modest when informed that the show’s cast members had been excited to share scenes with him. “I am happy to hear it, but I don’t let it really sink in,” he said. “I have seen some dreadful stories where you don’t recognize someone anymore after they believe all the publicity.”

Trouble Awaits at Home
When Victor returns to Genoa City following the events of the special crossover, he will be plunged right back into the Newman family drama, including Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) drug addiction, regaining control of the family business from Phyllis (Michelle Stafford), and the strain in his marriage to Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott).
To hear Braeden tell it, the conflict tearing the couple apart not only stems from Victor’s legendary stubbornness (“Victor doesn’t back down,” the actor noted) but also from his mistrust of Nikki’s relationship with Jack. “The point with the Victor and Nikki story is that it’s simply about the green monster,” he declared. “It’s jealousy.”
He explained, “Victor doesn’t trust that she sees Jack Abbott to consult him, to commune with him. He suspects they had something to do in the hotel room [when Jack helped alcoholic Nikki detox in 2024].”
Braeden maintained that Victor has neither forgiven nor forgotten that key incident. “Victor is pissed off about that, and she keeps on seeing Jack, so it’s a constant rubbing of salt in the wound,” he continued. “That’s what this is about. He thinks it’s disingenuous on Nikki’s part to pretend that everything is fine. No, it’s not, because Victor still suspects they had something to do in that hotel room, period. He has never been convinced otherwise.”
