General Hospital Comings & Goings: Steve Burton & Finola Hughes Back Filming!
Two Daytime-Emmy winning powerhouses are poised make their General Hospital returns! Both Steve Burton (Jason) and Finola Hughes (Anna) are officially back at the studio and filming again after their respective breaks from Port Charles.
The Comeback Trail
Hughes was last on-screen in February as beloved heroine Anna. That same month, Burton began a planned hiatus from GH, with his final episode airing in March. But both actors were on set on June 1, helping to celebrate a major milestone for the show: the taping of its 16,000th episode. A rep for the show confirms to Soap Opera Digest that Hughes has already been back at the studio resuming her Anna duties, while June 1 marked Burton’s first day back at work.
Hughes, who has played beloved heroine Anna on and off since 1985, was temporarily written out when Anna wound up in a psychiatric facility in France thanks to the machinations of Sidwell (Carlo Rota) and Cullum (Andrew Hawkes). At the evildoers’ behest, Anna was first kidnapped and then plied with hallucinogens to make her believe that her mortal enemy, Cesar Faison (Anders Hove), had cheated death once again. The actress’s co-star Chris McKenna (Jack) revealed on social media in April that she was “on her way back” and in recent weeks, the show has set the stage for Anna’s return by having Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) pull some strings to ensure that the French authorities would drop the charges pending against her.
As for Burton, he broke the news that he was taking some time off from the show in order to spend quality time with his family, including his wife of one year, Michelle. To explain his absence from the screen, Jason nobly took the fall for Rocco (Finn Carr), who shot Cullum in the back in an attempt to stop the corrupt WSB director from killing Jason and Britt (Kelly Thiebaud), and was whisked away by the WSB. On air, Cullum figured out that Jason was not his actual assailant and recently deduced that it was Rocco who did it. As Cullum closed in on Rocco, he fled Port Charles with Britt, and they remain on the lam.
