The Wild Tale Of Britt Giving Birth To Rocco On General Hospital
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned… and General Hospital’s Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) is out for revenge! Still ticked off that Lulu (Alexa Havins) dug into her past and blew open the secret that Gio is the child she gave up for adoption as a teen, Brook Lynn had a mysterious meeting with Marco last week and asked him if he had any connection to the other woman.
On the June 16 episode of GH, it was revealed that BLQ has hired Marco to dig into Rocco’s birth — and how Britt Westbourne was involved! (Hmm… might this be the storyline that brings Kelly Thiebaud, the actress who played Britt, back to Port Charles?) In case you need a refresher on the wild story behind Britt’s connection to Lulu and Dante’s son, we’ve got you covered!
The Road To Parenthood
Dante and Lulu tied the knot in December 2011, and the following year, a false positive pregnancy test made the Falconeris realize they wanted to start a family. However, after months of trying to conceive, the couple learned that Lulu was unable to carry a pregnancy to term. At first, they explored adoption — but they were blacklisted in the national database after Lulu lied on their application in hopes of boosting their chances. Next, they began interviewing potential surrogates, but had trouble finding the right person. Then Lulu’s BFF, Maxie, suggested that she carry a baby for them, and the couple eventually accepted her offer.
Enter Dr. Britt. General Hospital’s recently hired ob/gyn gave Maxie a clean bill of health, clearing her for surrogacy, and oversaw the next steps (Lulu’s egg retrieval and Dante’s sperm donation). Lulu-Dante embryos were created, and one was implanted into Maxie. Dante, Lulu and Maxie were overjoyed when they learned that the procedure was successful — Maxie was pregnant! Alas, on New Year’s Eve, Britt broke the sad news to Maxie that she had miscarried. That same night, Maxie wound up having sex with her ex, Spinelli.

Secrets And Lies
As 2013 got underway, Maxie didn’t have the heart to tell her friends that she had lost the baby they so desperately wanted, so she approached Britt with a plan: She would have herself implanted with another one of Dante and Lulu’s embryos, and the Falconeris would never have to know that the first pregnancy had been lost. The rub? Britt examined Maxie and determined that she was already pregnant as a result of her one-night stand with Spinelli!
Unable to bring herself to dash Lulu and Dante’s parental dreams, and with Spinelli happily coupled up with G.H. lab technician Ellie, Maxie decided she would stay mum and give her own biological child to a none-the-wiser Lulu and Dante once it was born. Then, in May, a suspicious Ellie illegally obtained Maxie’s medical records and found out about Ms. Jones’s miscarriage. She quickly deduced that Maxie was carrying Spinelli’s child. Maxie admitted that Ellie was right but strong-armed her into not saying anything to Spinelli.
In August, Maxie gave birth to a healthy baby girl. Dante and Lulu named her Connie in honor of his late cousin. The guilt of keeping Maxie’s secret finally became too much to bear for Ellie, who blabbed to Spinelli that he was the newborn’s biological father! Although horrified that Maxie handed over their child to her best friends, Spinelli admitted that he understood why she did it — a conversation that Brad overheard!

Here Comes The Son
Opposite this, Britt had become instantly smitten with fellow physician Patrick Drake. Even though Patrick was still grieving the death of his wife, Robin, he and Britt went on a few dates — and even had steamy shower sex in the hospital locker room! — but he caught feelings for another co-worker, nurse Sabrina Santiago, instead. Britt was crushed when Patrick dumped her for Sabrina and vowed revenge on her romantic rival.
As it turned out, scheming was in Britt’s genes: Her parents were revealed to be the evil Dr. Liesl Obrecht and supervillain Cesar Faison. Obrecht persuaded her daughter to use a baby to win Patrick back, and their grand plan came into view in April 2013 when Britt took the stage at the revived Nurses’ Ball and announced that she was pregnant with Patrick’s baby!

Convinced Britt was lying, Sabrina and fellow nurse Felix ran a covert DNA test, which proved that Patrick was indeed the father — but only because Obrecht had manipulated the results to perpetuate her daughter’s paternity lie. Determined to do the right thing for his child, Patrick agreed to co-parent Britt’s baby, and he and Sabrina prepared his daughter, Emma, to be a big sister.
During her pregnancy, Britt struck up a friendship with Nikolas Cassadine, who helped her realize that she had to let her obsession with Patrick go. When Britt was arrested at eight months pregnant as bait to draw her mother out of hiding, Patrick threatened to sue for full custody to keep his child away from Obrecht and Faison. Backed into a corner, Britt had no choice but to confess that Patrick was not her baby’s father. She claimed that she’d been artificially inseminated with her pal Brad Cooper’s sperm. At first, Patrick didn’t believe her, since Britt had spent months convincing him he was the father. Then, during a confrontation between Sabrina and Britt at Wyndemere (where Britt been staying), the expectant mother went into labor!
On the floor of the Wyndemere living room, Sabrina and Nikolas delivered Britt’s baby boy on September 9, 2013. Britt and the baby, who she decided to name Ben, moved into Nikolas’s home full-time. Because her son looked nothing like Brad, Britt crafted another lie and told Nikolas that she and her mom had stolen sperm from the hospital lab so that Britt could get pregnant. A romance blossomed between Britt and Nik two after Nik rescued Ben from Liesl and Faison, who had kidnapped the baby and held him on Cassadine Island along with their other prize hostage, a very much alive Robin Scorpio-Drake.

An Unimaginable Loss
Meanwhile, the Falconeris were in a blissful bubble of parenthood, but were growing concerned over Maxie’s strong attachment to “their” daughter. Still, they asked Maxie and Spinelli to be Connie’s godparents. The day of the baby’s christening ended in disaster when Brad showed up and revealed the truth about Connie’s biological parentage. Crushed (and furious), Dante and Lulu wound up in a custody battle with Maxie and Spinelli. After an emotional trial, they had to give up the baby girl they’d come to love when Spinelli was awarded sole custody of his daughter, whom he renamed Georgie after Maxie’s late sister, whom he had adored.
As they worked through their grief over losing custody of Georgie, Dante and Lulu decided they wanted to try to have another baby. They went to the G.H. lab to check on their two remaining embryos, only to discover that both were missing. Unbeknownst to the Falconeris, Obrecht and Britt had stolen the embryos, and Britt had used one to impregnate herself all those months ago! As they spent time with Lulu’s brother Nikolas, Britt, and little Ben, Dante and Lulu had no clue they were bonding with their own son. Lulu’s dream of being a mother was further crushed when Britt informed her that her eggs were no longer viable.

Reunited And It Feels So Good
Britt’s scheme began to unravel in early 2014, when Nik’s good friend/ex-lover, Elizabeth, learned that Ben and Dante had the same genetic allergy to latex. Having been told by Nikolas that Britt had stolen sperm from the lab, Liz suspected that Dante could be Ben’s biological father and shared her theory with Felix. Secretly, the pair ran a paternity test on Dante and Ben, which confirmed they were father and son! Liz later confronted Britt, warning her to fill Nikolas in because she intended to inform Dante and Lulu herself.
When Nikolas proposed to Britt that same night, her guilty conscience stopped her from saying yes immediately. Giving Nikolas a partial truth, Britt confessed that Dante was Ben’s father, but put all the blame for the stolen sperm on Liesl. Realizing that she needed to come clean with Dante as well, Britt and Nik went to his sister and brother-in-law’s loft and told them that the “anonymous sperm sample” Liesl had stolen was, in fact, Dante’s. While Dante was thrilled to learn that he had a child, Lulu secretly worried that she wouldn’t be able to accept Ben as part of the family.

While Britt had come clean about Ben’s paternity, she was still holding a secret about the baby’s maternity. In the days before a party at Wyndemere celebrating Britt’s engagement to Nikolas, Brad suggested that she might find it cathartic if she wrote a letter of apology to Lulu, then destroyed it. Britt did exactly that but accidentally left the letter in a GH conference room… where it was found by Cameron, Liz’s young son. Cam used the paper to create an origami heart for Emma, but when Cam gave Emma the heart at the party, Nik’s jealous son, Spencer, threw it on the ground. Liz stumbled upon Cameron’s origami heart and was shocked to see that the paper contained Britt’s confession. She promptly showed the letter to Lulu, who confronted the bride-to-be in front of all the party guests.
Finally, Britt admitted the whole sordid truth about Ben’s true parentage, causing an outraged Nik to dump her. But Dante and Lulu didn’t get to take their son home that night because the tot was once again kidnapped by Liesl! Thankfully, Dante rescued his son, and the toddler was at long last brought to his real home. Dante reminded Lulu that Rocco was a name they had discussed during Maxie’s pregnancy. “Every time we thought up a name, it was always a boy’s name and it was Rocco,” he pointed out. “I think it fits. And I think it makes him ours.” Lulu quickly agreed, and with that, Rocco was finally and truly who and where he was always meant to be.
