Is General Hospital’s Brad Returning? Kelly Thiebaud and Head Writers Tease A Comeback (EXCL)
After blabbing Portia’s business to Drew in exchange for a hefty payoff, Brad Cooper — the sometimes lovable, sometimes infuriating character Parry Shen has played on General Hospital on and off since 2013 — left town this past May. But the recent return to Port Charles of his not-so-dead BFF, Britt Westbourne, has made Brad a hot topic in Port Charles. Does Brad being name-dropped mean that he’s poised for a comeback? Soap Opera Digest got the inside scoop from Kelly Thiebaud (Britt) and the show’s head writers, Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten.
Friends In Deed
It wasn’t quite platonic love at first sight for lab manager Brad and ob/gyn Britt, but the two ended up forging a close bond while working and scheming together at the hospital. Brad was, as longtime fans will recall, central to Britt pulling off her wild plan to impregnate herself with Lulu and Dante’s embryo and pretend to be carrying Patrick Drake’s baby, resulting in the birth of Rocco. In 2022, Shen noted to Digest that Brad and Britt “were supposed to just be these two schemers, but they connected and it filled a void on the show, I think; it wasn’t a redundant character chemistry.”
Both Brad and Britt have come and gone from Port Charles over the years, but they’ve never had more fun than when they’ve overlapped — particularly if their presence in town coincided with the Nurses’ Ball and the two could snicker and gossip while watching the red carpet coverage on TV as they did all the way back in 2015. “We had a blast doing those scenes,” Thiebaud told Digest at the time. “I don’t think there was really much fake laughter going on there. It was pretty much all real!”
Renewed Affection?
Thus far, it hasn’t been the happiest of homecomings for Britt, who wasn’t exactly welcomed back with open arms by those who she allowed to believe had lost her for good with her 2023 faux demise. (Her own mother even slapped her across the face!) “She’ll need a shoulder to lean on and a partner in crime,” Korte and Van Etten told Digest when asked about the possibility of Brad swooping in to give Britt some desperately needed companionship. But, they hedged, “Hard to say if that will be Brad… he really went through it when she ‘died.’ Would you forgive your bestie for faking her death?”
Thiebaud is confident that fans will get to find out the answer to that question. “I can’t see why they wouldn’t bring him back!” she declares. “I mean, that was such a fun relationship that everybody loved, and it was completely different than the other friendships on the show. I think it’s much needed — and I also think Brad has his own story there, too, you know? It’s not just to come back as my bestie. I really don’t see a world where that wouldn’t happen!”
