General Hospital Recap: Jason Gets Sonny’s Blessing to Leave the Mob
The Monday, August 3, episode of General Hospital was high on emotion as Jason (Steve Burton) stepped down as Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) right-hand man. Meanwhile, Josslyn (Eden McCoy) cautioned Jack (Chris McKenna) about getting involved with Nina (Cynthia Watros), Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and Elizabeth’s (Rebecca Herbst) closeness caused Ric (Rick Hearst) dismay, Anna (Finola Hughes) gave a piece of her mind to Valentin (James Patrick Stuart), and Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) lied to Gio (Giovanni Mazza) and Trina (Tabyana Ali). Warning Signs
Nina returned to Jack’s office to accept his dinner invite, but he had to turn her down because he was expecting an important phone call. He told Nina that he didn’t want his work to impact their relationship the way it had with Carly, and their steamy kiss was interrupted when Josslyn entered the room. She was fresh off a run in the park, during which she had flashed back to the day she was shot.
After recovering from the shock of learning that Josslyn was a WSB agent, Nina exited. Josslyn tried to warn Jack against getting involved with Nina, telling him about how she’d let the Corinthos family believe Sonny was dead while he was suffering from amnesia. Not interested in hearing about Nina’s past, Jack dismissed Josslyn and said he’d learned the only way to have a personal life when you were in the WSB was to keep it separate from what mattered most: the work.
Ultimate Sacrifice
After informing Sonny that he was resigning as his enforcer, Jason detailed the events of the day he was arrested and how it made him realize that he’d failed Danny too many times. Now that he was a free man, he needed to make his son a priority. Despite Sonny offering to make changes to Jason’s job, he insisted that he needed to set a better example because he didn’t want Danny following in his footsteps.
Both Sonny and Jason got emotional as Jason said he’d forever be grateful for Sonny giving him a purpose when he was floundering as a young man. Offering Jason his blessing, Sonny vowed that they’d always be brothers and the men shared a hug.
Been There, Done That
As a stunned Anna spied Valentin and Carly kissing at the Metro Court Gardens, Peter appeared and jeered that Valentin was too tied up to run to her rescue. Anna accidentally knocked into a waiter, and the commotion brought her presence to Valentin and Carly’s attention. They invited her to join them.
Valentin happily revealed that they were celebrating his getting his assets back, but Anna warned him that he was a fool for throwing away his freedom by making a deal with the WSB because they would pull him back in. Carly declared that Valentin was proof that someone could get out of the bureau, so she had hope that Josslyn would get out, too.
Sighing that it might be too late for that, Anna apologized for not telling Carly she knew Joss was an agent. She would have dissuaded Josslyn from joining the WSB but had kept an eye on her as best as she could. Carly was touched by Anna’s compassion for her daughter, but the conversation left Valentin concerned that it would take a long time before Anna was able to put the ghost of Faison behind her.
After leaving Jack’s office, Nina ran into Valentin and Carly at the Metro Court Garden. Valentin thanked her for being the reason he had his money back (because Jack wouldn’t have made a deal with him otherwise), then warned Nina that Brennan was only interested in her because she was his ex-wife. Carly was impressed by the way Valentin put Nina in her place.
Voices In My Head
Emma, Gio, and Kai tried to keep Trina’s mind off Curtis’s trial with a game night, but Josslyn passed on hanging out, lying that she had to work. Trina told her friends she wasn’t going to attend the trial because her dad didn’t want her there, but said it felt wrong to stay away. Gio and Trina took off for a meeting with Simon with Kai in tow.
Once Anna returned home, she told Emma about her conversation with Carly and Valentin about Josslyn and was relieved that her granddaughter had no desire to join the WSB. Later, Peter reappeared and taunted Anna that Britt would use Emma to get to her, and Valentin wouldn’t be able to help her. Pleased when Anna declared that she couldn’t let that happen, Peter reminded her that she was the only one who could stop Britt.
It’s Show(mance) Time
While they waited for Gio and Trina at the Surf Lodge, Simon told Brook Lynn he had “big plans” for the duo. Annoyed when Trina introduced her boyfriend, Simon refused to shake Kai’s hand. He privately told Brook Lynn that the label’s entire marketing plan promoted Gio and Trina as a couple and demanded that she get them on board.
Brook Lynn explained this to Gio, Trina, and Kai, all of whom were appalled by the idea of a fake relationship. Gio wanted to take advantage of the 90-day out clause in their contract, but Brook Lynn lied and said they should give Simon time to come up with a new plan, promising that she’d handle things. Meanwhile, Trina’s obsessed fan clicked through photos of her and Kai on the computer and digitally removed Kai from one of the images.
Park Rangers
Ric was jealous when he spotted Dante giving Elizabeth softball pointers at the park. Things were tense when he approached the pair, and Ric left after making a plan to meet up with Liz later. Once they were alone again, Dante told Liz that Anna had dropped her search for the missing Cullum evidence, but he was struggling with the fact that he’d compromised his career for personal gain.
The bond between them strengthened as Liz reassured Dante that he made the right call by protecting Rocco, so he shouldn’t feel guilty. Meanwhile, Ric returned to the park and was peeved that Liz and Dante were still together.
