General Hospital Recap: ‘Nathan’ Wakes Up, Drew Targets The Quartermaines And Tracy Goes Missing

Comments

On the September 23 episode of General Hospital, Felicia (Kristina Wagner) got quite the shock when she saw the hospital’s John Doe, who looks just like her late son-in-law, Nathan West (Ryan Paevey)! Meanwhile, the mysterious patient woke up as Nina (Cynthia Watros) sat by his side, Drew (Cameron Mathison) decided that he was going to fight the Quartermaines for his part of Monica’s (Leslie Charleson) estate, a grieving Tracy (Jane Elliot) went missing, and more! Here’s everything that went down.

Ready Or Not

After receiving a shipment of medication from “C,” Britt gave herself an injection, quickly hiding the vials when Jason showed up. She thought he was a repair guy sent by Carly to fix her stuck window, and gave him a hard time about emptying out the full closet so she could use it. Saying he’d get around to it, Jason grabbed a suit from the closet. In full “Britch” mode, Britt asked if he was going to a “formal mob meet and greet,” but cut back on the sass once he revealed that his mom had passed away. Now more sympathetic, Britt listened intently as Jason relayed how Tracy had asked him to break the news of Drew’s shooting to Monica, and had been the one to discover that she was gone. “I just wasn’t prepared to find her that way,” he divulged.

Piecing together the timing of Drew’s shooting three days prior then Monica’s death, with her own rescue in Croatia, Britt concluded that if it wasn’t for her, Jason would have been with his mother during her last days. He’d been exactly where he needed to be, Jason reassured her, because Monica always wanted him to do the right thing, and saving Britt was the right thing to do. Then, he told her how he’d moved back into the mansion following Sam’s death so Danny, Rocco, and Scout could be together, even if he didn’t want to admit to that he was doing it for himself, too. He was grateful for the time he spent with his mother, but wished he’d known that was all they would get. Speaking from experience, Britt noted that maybe it was better that he didn’t know, so he wasn’t always worried about saying good-bye. With that, Jason left, wishing Britt luck on her first day of work back at the hospital.

Missing Person

Martin placed a phone call, asking the mystery person on the line if they’d be able to attend Monica’s memorial service.

Lulu went to the mansion to see Tracy and expressed her condolences to Brook Lynn, Michael, and Ned while she was waiting. When Tracy was nowhere to be found, Michael went to the stables to see if she’d taken Hades for a ride. Ned shared with Lulu that while Tracy was putting up a brave front, she was hit hard by Monica’s death. Michael reported back that Tracy’s car was gone, and Brook Lynn confirmed with the housekeeper that Tracy’s overnight bag was missing — as were her medications, fine jewelry, and Lila’s brooch. Brook Lynn and Michael thought they should give Tracy space, but Ned felt his mother was consumed with grief after losing a friend of over 50 years, and they needed to find her.

Michael took off to call Brick for assistance, and Ned left to see if a flight plan had been filed for the ELQ jet, leaving Brook Lynn and Lulu alone to speculate where Tracy might have gone. As Lulu mused that her dad would have gone on a drinking bender, she was hit with an idea. They called Ned and Michael back into the living room, and Ned agreed that Lulu was on to something. Then, he placed a phone call asking the other person for help locating his mom.

Know When To Fold ‘Em

Trina, Portia, and Curtis were excited when Marshall returned home from his music tour. But before he filled his family in on his travels, Marshall expressed that the family needed to pull together and make sure Curtis didn’t take the fall for shooting “Congressman Cutthroat.” Faking affection with Portia for Marshall’s benefit, Curtis explained that the worst was behind them since the fraud charges against Stella had been dropped and she was back at G.H., but Marshall insisted that Curtis be protected.

Curtis didn’t want to talk about the possibility of going to prison in front of Trina, but his daughter was adamant that she be involved in how the family dealt with the situation. Maintaining his innocence, Curtis stated he was confident the PCPD would find their suspect. Just then, Dante arrived to speak with Curtis, putting everyone on edge. ADA Turner was nitpicking every statement involved in the investigation, Dante explained, so he wanted to go over Curtis’s report. In front of the family, Dante walked through Curtis’s account of his activities on the night of the shooting. Portia was hurt to hear that at one point, Curtis had met Jordan for drinks at the Brown Dog. Next, Dante mentioned that the only time Curtis was unaccounted for was the time that Drew was shot, but Curtis didn’t have an alibi for that time frame.

After walking Dante to the front door, Portia took a fortifying breath, then grabbed her coat and purse and told Curtis that it was “time to go” before she stormed out. Outside, she ripped into him for once again choosing Jordan over her, and Curtis shot back that the only reason the cops weren’t questioning her about Drew’s shooting was because he was protecting her. Portia shouted that she didn’t need his help and declared that she was done pretending they had any sort of marriage. With that, Portia stormed off. When Trina tried to eavesdrop on her parents’ conversation from inside the house, Marshall chastised her to mind her own business, but she was standing near the door when her dad walked back into the house.

Twice Blessed?

After summoning Nina to the PCPD, Anna broke the news that the fingerprints and a DNA test on the John Doe recovering at the hospital matched her brother, Nathan. Nina was positive that the tests were wrong, but Anna said she saw the man herself. Nina worried that the news would be a shock for her Aunt Liesl after Britt’s reappearance and suggested that perhaps her cousin knew something about their shared brother, musing, “I mean, she shows up alive and a couple of days later, her brother supposedly does too?” Anna agreed the timing was questionable, but Nina again declared that the man was not Nathan — or “J,” as she’d called him — since they’d all been to his funeral. The DNA results and fingerprint match were undeniable, Anna pointed out, and Nina wondered if Cesar Faison was behind it.

Anna shared that she thought Faison might be involved as well, but she’d seen his brain in a jar. “Are you sure it was his brain?” Nina quipped. Anna hoped Nina would ID the unconscious John Doe, fearing Liesl wouldn’t be objective, considering the recent events with Britt’s return. At first, Nina refused, but Anna eventually wore her down, and they headed to the hospital.

Will Power

Jordan visited Drew in his hospital room and they bickered about his broken friendship with Curtis. She also called him out for abusing his power by having Stella arrested. Once Drew told Jordan he didn’t want to fight because Monica had just died, Jordan hoped he would use Monica’s death and his own shooting to take stock of his life. Drew bitterly declared that he had done that, and the memory he’s left with is Monica refusing to allow him back on the family estate. Jordan contended that Monica cared for him and expected more of him. “If you can’t be a better man for Monica,” Jordan fired back, “then be one for your daughter.” He insisted that he loves his daughter. Jordan urged Drew to grow from his current situation and be the father that Scout needs before exiting his room.

Meanwhile, Felicia welcomed Stella back to work and shared that there was no update on Maxie’s condition. Spinelli was putting up a good front for the kids, Felicia added, but she could tell he was having a hard time. Stella worried that Felicia was letting herself be distracted by everyone else to avoid dealing with her own broken heart and encouraged her friend to take care of herself and take time off to grieve. Later, Martin arrived at the hospital and was thrilled to see Stella back at work. However, Stella wasn’t pleased to learn that Martin was again working as Drew’s attorney and put the pieces together that he’d made an agreement with the congressman in exchange for her freedom.

The next person to find Stella at the hub was Jordan, who thanked Curtis’s ex-wife for her part in figuring out how Drew was behind the fraud charges. Both Stella and Jordan were glad the investigation was behind them, but Stella worried that damage had already been done. Jordan revealed she saw Curtis the night of the shooting but didn’t believe he was involved in the crime.

Back in Drew’s room, Martin updated his client that ADA Turner challenged the injunction he’d filed to prevent the PCPD from seeing the contents of the safe. As Drew stared straight ahead, Martin added that he was still waiting for the judge’s ruling, but he didn’t think the odds were in their favor. Finally, looking at his attorney, Drew revealed that he was thinking about Monica at the moment, not what was in his safe. “She treated me like a son. Until Tracy and Michael and the rest of the family turned her against me,” he seethed. As Drew continued to rant, Martin reminded him that he was only his attorney and his time was billable, so perhaps Drew should find someone else to help him work through his grief. “You’re exactly who I should be talking to,” Drew insisted. “My family may have cut me out of Monica’s life, but I’ll be damned if they cut me out of her will.”

Waking Life

Nurse Chanel tended to the unconscious John Doe. When Felicia later got to the man’s room, she was so shocked to see a man identical to her late son-in-law in the bed that she dropped her file of folders. Then, Anna entered the room and gently pulled her longtime friend out into the hallway. Nina was there waiting and was taken aback by Felicia’s expression as Anna walked Maxie’s mom down the corridor. Hesitantly, Nina approached the room’s window and stared through the window. Working up the courage to enter the hospital room, Nina moved to the bed, but then quickly turned around to leave. Before she could make her way to the door, Nina turned back to the patient and pulled up a chair to sit next to him, staring at the man who looked exactly like her brother with tears in her eyes. Crying, Nina was holding John Doe’s hand when he squeezed it. Gasping, Nina looked up just as the man startled awake. “J?” she asked in a whisper as he looked at her. Then, the man smiled.

Meanwhile, Anna explained to Felicia that she’d needed to gather more info about John Doe before she’d told anyone anything, and Felicia revealed that Mac hadn’t told her anything either. Then, Anna shared that when the department ran the VIN of the truck the man had been found in, the report came back that the vehicle had been through a crusher in Mississippi. Also, the man had no ID or phone, but his DNA and fingerprints were a positive match for Nathan. “Do you really think it’s him?” Felicia gasped. Anna wasn’t sure, but pointed out that Britt was supposed to be dead, too. “The only person who would know for sure is lying in a coma right now,” Felicia lamented, referring to Maxie, and worried how the man’s presence — whether he turned out to be Nathan or not — would affect James.
