General Hospital Comings and Goings: Michael E. Knight Returns as Martin Grey
General Hospital is welcoming yet another actor back into the Port Charles fold, as Michael E. Knight returns as Martin Grey in the Wednesday, July 7 episode. The actor last appeared in March 2026, when attorney Martin informed his sister, Laura (Genie Francis), that he was headed to Reno to take on a new case.
Martin Returns to Port Charles
Knight was first seen again as Martin in the promo for Wednesday’s show that aired at the end of Tuesday’s episode. In the clip, Laura was shown with her brother, telling Martin that there might be “something else” he could help her with.
The actor, who is best known for his decades-spanning run on All My Children as Tad “the Cad” Martin — a role for which he won multiple Daytime Emmy Awards — made his GH debut as Martin on September 30, 2019. Since joining the show, he has taken regular hiatuses from playing Martin to spend time with his family on the East Coast.
Early on in Knight’s career as Martin, the character was revealed not only was to be the brother of notorious criminal Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober), but also the half brother of Laura, with whom he shares a biological father, the late Gordon Grey.
Although never as villainous as Cyrus, Martin wasn’t always on the up-and-up, like when he tried to take revenge on Tracy (Jane Elliot) by teaming up with Drew (Cameron Mathison) to steal the Quartermaine mansion from her after Monica (Leslie Charleson) passed away.
Still, Martin felt guilty when the scheme was exposed, and Laura was seriously disappointed in her brother. Now that he’s back in town, he’s got more opportunities to make things right with his sister.
Might the attorney find himself getting mixed up in Curtis (Donnell Turner) and Isaiah’s (Sawandi Wilson) ongoing legal battle? Or will Laura keep him busy enough with her own problems? And with Sidwell (Carlo Rota) now behind bars, might Martin’s ex, Lucy (Lynn Herring), be open to a reunion?
