Jason Returns to General Hospital: Everything You Need to Know Before Steve Burton’s Comeback

Comments

Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) returns to General Hospital in the July 13 episode, and before he steps back into Port Charles, it’s time to revisit where he’s been — and what has changed since he was taken into WSB custody.

How Was Jason Released?

Jason was last seen on the March 25 episode of GH, when he was arrested by the WSB for shooting double agent Cullum (Andrew Hawkes). In reality, Rocco (Finn Carr) was the one who pulled the trigger, but Jason took the blame to protect the teenager. Before he was taken away, Jason shared emotional goodbyes with Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) and his son, Danny (Asher Antonyzyn).

After Cullum was ultimately brought down, Josslyn (Eden McCoy) struck a deal with WSB chief Z (John Oliver) that allowed the agency to avoid the fallout from the corrupt agent’s actions. Josslyn agreed to make an official statement that Cullum had died a hero while stopping Cassius (Ryan Paevey) from escaping with a deadly cold fusion reactor. In exchange, Z agreed to release both Jason and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) from WSB custody.

Valentin returned to Port Charles in the July 6 episode and reunited with Carly (Laura Wright), but Jason’s homecoming has taken a little longer.

What Happened While Jason Was Gone

Danny was desperate to get his father back, so after he learned who really shot Cullum, he went to WSB Chief Brennan (Chris McKenna) to expose Rocco. However, without proof and unaware of the deal Josslyn had made with Z, there was little anyone could do to overturn Jason’s conviction.

Once Jason returns home, he will have some serious explaining to do to Danny — and his work cut out for him if he wants to help mend Danny and Rocco’s broken trust.

Meanwhile, Jason’s rekindled relationship with Britt was cut short by his arrest. Jason will surely be stunned to learn that she actually does not have the deadly Huntington’s disease, as Cullum had led her to believe. Will these two pick up where they left off or continue to lead separate lives?

Jason is coming home to other major changes in the lives of those closest to him. He is like to have a huge reaction to discovering that Carly and Valentin’s relationship has gotten so serious, that Sonny and Ric (Rick Hearst) have gotten so chummy and that Ethan (Nathan Dean) is now on the Corinthos organization’s payroll.

Big Changes Ahead for Jason

Not only will Jason find that things have changed in Port Charles, but he will have undergone a personal metamorphosis in his time away. In Soap Opera Digest’s exclusive GH Summer Preview for 2026, Head Writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten teased that Jason would return “a changed man. His imprisonment has had a profound effect on his outlook, and how he intends to conduct the rest of his life.”
