General Hospital’s Jason Talked Marriage with Elizabeth and Other Big Soap Moments from October 6

In 1987, Rena Sofer — who would go on to play the roles of Rocky McKenzie on Loving, Lois Cerullo on General Hospital and Quinn Fuller on Bold and Beautiful, winning a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her original 1993-95 run on GH — made her daytime debut in the short-term role of Joyce Abernathy on Another World. Joyce was an ex-girlfriend of Sam Fowler's, then played by Robert Kelker-Kelly.

In 2006, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) talked marriage with Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) on General Hospital, convinced that the baby she was carrying could be his (which it was). In the episode, Liz went to see Jason, who had summoned her to meet. "I just think we really need to talk about what we're going to do if ... if the baby is mine," he told her. "I don't know where you're going with this," she responded warily. "What I'm trying to say is I ... I want to do the right thing. If the baby is mine, I would marry you." Liz was caught off-guard, to say the least.

In 2014, Nick and Sharon were on the verge of remarrying on Young and Restless when the wedding was crashed by Phyllis Summers (Gina Tognoni), who was freshly out of her long coma — and Phyllis couldn't wait to bust Sharon for switching the paternity test results on Summer to make it appear that Nick was not her father! Before it all went awry, Nick took his place at the altar and was soon joined by Sharon. Their son, Noah, delivered a touching speech, praising his folks for overcoming “the doubters and the haters and yeah, even your own mistakes.” Summer recited a poem and Nick and Sharon exchanged personal vows (“Thank you for standing by my side,” said a choked-up Sharon, while Nick went for humor: “I’ve made a lot of mistakes, too. Some were even entertaining.”) But just as it looked like the wedding was going to go off without a hitch, the church doors flew open with a racket, revealing a dramatically backlit Phyllis — dressed in white, no less!

In 2020, All My Children alumna Kim Delaney, who played heroine Jenny Nelson Gardner, assumed the role of Jackie Templeton on General Hospital. The actress, a Primetime Emmy winner for her work on NYPD Blue, succeeded Demi Moore as Jackie, a reporter last seen in Port Charles in 1984. Delaney, who had spent several months sheltering in place due to the Covid pandemic, told Soap Opera Digest, “I love working and I was very excited to get back to work," and shared that her conversations with Executive Producer Frank Valentini had sold her on the notion of returning to daytime. "I always look to the producer because [the work environment] always works from the top down,” she noted. She praised the steadfast viewers of soaps, who had followed her since her AMC days (1981-84). “Soap fans truly are the best fans. I have to say thank you to them. They been loyal since ’81, all through the years — and even though they loved Jenny, they’re going to love Jackie, because they’ve loved everything in between! They’re so excited with what I’m doing right now — and so am I.”

In 2023 on General Hospital, Bonnie Burroughs aired for the final time as Gladys Corbin, the money-hungry and manipulative cousin of Sonny Corinthos and grieving mother of Brando Corbin, who put her daughter-in-law, Sasha, through hell in her final months on the show. The actress told Soap Opera Digest that her time on the show "felt like getting to be part of a healthy, supportive family, which allows a person to thrive in the world. Being around these people regularly — not just the actors, but the people behind the camera at GH, who are wonderful — for that amount of time made me part of their family and allowed me to grow the character, to develop my confidence with the work and to have more fun with Gladys and to try new things. It sounds so cheesy, but the family aspect of working on the show really was the greatest gift. It’s so different from just popping in for a job for a day or two, where you’re almost like a temp in an office; the people might be nice, but you don’t really get to know them.”
