The Young and the Restless Fans React to Mariah and Tessa’s Off-Screen Reunion
Mariah (Camryn Grimes) returned home in the August 3 episode of The Young and Restless and shared a heartfelt reunion with her mother, Sharon (Sharon Case). But it was what the show didn’t depict on camera — her reconciliation with her wife, Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) — that got Y&R fans talking.
In the episode, Mariah surprised Sharon at Crimson Lights and revealed that she had already reconnected with Tessa. According to Mariah, Tessa had welcomed her home with open arms, and she was moving back in with Tessa and their daughter, Aria.

It was good news for Mariah — but not for “Teriah” fans, who felt cheated out of actually witnessing the couple’s reconciliation on camera.
The choice to keep this critical beat off-screen struck many viewers as particularly egregious because Y&R had shown so much of the couple’s pain on camera. Over the course of many months, Mariah pushed her loved ones away while grappling with trauma tied to Ian Ward (Ray Wise). It also depicted the damage to Mariah and Tessa’s marriage — including Tessa sleeping with Daniel (Michael Graziadei) — before the story escalated in January 2026 with Mariah abducting Dominic (Ethan Ray Clark). Mariah ultimately took a plea deal that sent her to treatment instead of prison time, setting the stage for her return.
So when Mariah came back and the show chose to summarize her reunion with Tessa in dialogue rather than play it as a scene, some viewers said it felt like being denied the payoff they’d been waiting for.
“It’s so nice to see Mariah back,” @SoapyHousewife posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Good scenes with her and Sharon. But of course they couldn’t show Mariah reuniting with her family. We only get to be told about it instead of seeing it.” Another viewer, @expressrealizm, remarked, “Mariah got welcomed back to Tessa with opened arms; we couldn’t have seen this onscreen???”
Others also argued that if the show had time to dramatize the fracture, it should have taken time to dramatize the repair. “Only a mention of Mariah moving back in with Tess and Aria,” @alexaismyname2 wrote. “Just because they decided to put them together again doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten what happened.”
