The Young and the Restless Comings & Goings: Patrika Darbo Returns as Sally’s Grandmother, Shirley
Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) will soon welcome two very special visitors to Genoa City. Patrika Darbo is returning to The Young and the Restless as Sally’s grandmother, Shirley Spectra, who will be joined by Sally’s younger sister, Coco Spectra. The role of Coco will now be played by Ashley Campbell. Both actresses will pop up on Y&R in October.
Sally’s Grandmother and Sister Visit Genoa City
The characters of Shirley and Coco originated on Y&R’s sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, where Sally was also first introduced. Courtney Hope made the move to Y&R to play Sally in 2020, and Darbo made a handful of appearances on Y&R in the spring of 2021 when Sally made some video calls to her grandmother. The episodes airing in October will mark the first time that Shirley visits Sally in Genoa City in person.
Darbo, who is best known for playing Nancy Wesley on Days of our Lives, joined the cast of B&B as Shirley Spectra in 2017. The sister of long-running B&B icon Sally Spectra, played by the late Darlene Conley (after whom Hope’s Sally is named), Shirley attempted to relaunch Spectra Fashions to compete with Forrester Creations.
That storyline came to an end the following year, and Darbo last aired in March 2018. She returned for an episode in November of that year to support her granddaughter when Sally’s designs were featured in a Forrester fashion show.
Sally’s sister, Coco Spectra, also appeared on B&B from 2017-18, and was played by Courtney Grosbeck. Ashley Campbell, who is taking over the role, has appeared in projects like HBO’s The Sex Lives of College Girls and the film Spellbound.
According to the Y&R Fall Preview, Sally and Billy’s (Jason Thompson) wedding is coming up in October, so it would appear that Shirley and Coco will RSVP for the nuptials.
