General Hospital Star Laura Wright Confirms Cameo in David Duchovny Soap Satire
Former X-Files star David Duchovny is the co-writer and star of the upcoming satire comedy Soapbox, where he plays a soap star who is past his prime. After Soap Opera Digest reported about Vincent Irizarry (ex-David, All My Children et al) and Christopher Sean (ex-Paul, Days of Our Lives) appearing in the film, another big daytime name, Laura Wright (Carly, General Hospital), confirmed that she will also notch a cameo in the project!
You Oughta Be in Pictures
Wright reposted Digest‘s story about Irizarry’s participation in Soapbox on X (previously Twitter) and wrote, “Someone else may have a cameo in this movie as well,” adding two winky-face emojis and two raised-hands emojis.
The Daytime Emmy winner’s appearance in the movie will mark her first trip to the silver screen since 2015 . That year, the GH star had a memorable cameo in five-time Academy Award-nominated writer and director David O. Russell’s film Joy, which starred Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Diane Ladd, Virginia Madsen, Isabella Rossellini and Bradley Cooper. Russell cast Wright, along with Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH), Susan Lucci (ex-Erica, AMC) and Donna Mills (ex-Abby, Knots Landing; ex-Madeline, GH), as actors on the titular character’s favorite soap.
Wright recalled to Digest at the time that around Thanksgiving 2014, “I got a phone call saying, ‘This director in L.A. wants to meet with you. Can you send a reel?’ I was like, ‘Uh, I don’t really have a reel!’ ” A few days later, Wright met Russell in person and improvised a fight scene with him in what she described as “the craziest audition ever.” Lawrence soon joined them for more improv, and before long, she learned the job was hers. “We were completely sworn to secrecy,” added Wright, who flew with Benard to Boston for the shoot. “And then there we were, working on scenes with Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro and Virginia Madsen, who is a huge daytime fan. She was just amazing to hang out with. Hanging out with Robert De Niro on set didn’t suck, either!”
The actress didn’t know how much of her performance would make the final cut and was amazed when Joy‘s opening scene featured Wright in a scene with Susan Lucci. “I certainly didn’t know I’d be opening the film,” she marveled. “I’s so exciting. It was an amazing experience.”
Here’s hoping her experience on Soapbox was just as amazing! The film began production in Los Angeles last month, and no release date has been announced.
