Vincent Irizarry Joins David Duchovny in New Comedy About an Aging Soap Star
A new satirical comedy that takes inspiration from the world of daytime, Soapbox, began production in March and stars David Duchovny (ex-Denise, Twin Peaks) as an aging soap star, who, according to the film’s IMDb plot description, “finds himself caught in the absurdities of today’s culture wars.” In the movie, Daytime Emmy-winning soap vet Vincent Irizarry is starring alongside Duchovny in the role of Nikkos.

Irizarry shared a carousel of behind-the-scenes photos from the movie on Instagram, writing, “It’s been a crazy, wild, fun several weeks shooting the comedic film Soapbox opposite David Duchovny, under the fantastic direction of Andrew Jay Cohen, with a stellar cast, namely Laverne Cox [Orange is the New Black], West Duchovny, Brian Huskey, Jimmi Simpson, Fred Melamed, Josh Bonzie, Jennifer Grey [Dirty Dancing], and my dear friend and past Days of Our Lives alumnus, Christopher Sean [ex-Paul].” Declared the actor, “It was a joy working with them all.”
Irizarry first became a soap star back in 1983 when he was cast as antihero Brandon “Lujack” Luvonaczek on Guiding Light. His daytime career continued with his roles as Scott Clark on Santa Barbara, Nick McHenry (Lujack’s surprise identical twin) on GL, David Hayward on All My Children, David Chow on Young and Restless, and Deimos Kiriakis on DAYS. He earned Daytime Emmy Award nominations for his work on GL, AMC, and DAYS, and took home the trophy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2009 for AMC.
While plot details for Soapbox are still being kept under wraps, the film was co-written by Max Barbakow and Duchovny. The former X-Files star recently made headlines as he was spotted filming Soapbox on location in full drag, clad in a lacy top, short sequined skirt and a blonde wig.
“I guarantee, you’ve never seen David quite like this before!” Irizarry enthused of Duchovny. “Take that from someone who got to see him up close and personal (I’m embarrassed to say, a little more so than I ever would’ve imagined 🫣). Check it out once it’s released. It promises to entertain you, for sure.”
Plenty of Irizarry’s friends and former co-stars chimed in with comments on his post, including Cameron Mathison (Drew, General Hospital; ex-Ryan, AMC), who posted a series of clapping hands emojis. Galen Gering (Rafe, DAYS) cheered, “Yasssss,” and Fiona Hutchison (ex-Jenna, GL; ex-Gabrielle, One Life to Live) declared, “I am looking forward to this.”
Finola Hughes, who worked closely with Irizarry on AMC when her GH character of Anna Devane crossed over to Pine Valley and became David’s love interest, commented, “Can’t wait.” Hughes herself has also appeared in a movie satire centered on soaps when she and Stephen Nichols (Steve, DAYS; ex-Stefan, GH) had cameos in the 1991 comedy Soapdish.
As Soapbox is still in production, a release date for the film has not yet been announced.
