General Hospital: Ryan Paevey’s Cassius Appears Dead After Violent Shootout — Is This the End?
A violent shootout in the July 2 episode of General Hospital left multiple people dead, and it appears that one of them is Cassius Faison. Is this the end of Ryan Paevey‘s latest run on the soap?
Cassius’ Last Stand?
Soap Opera Digest reached out to GH to confirm whether this marks the actor’s final appearance in the role, but a rep could not be reached for comment. Still, from what happened on-screen, it doesn’t look good for Cassius!
Paevey, a fan favorite during his 2013-18 run as heroic Detective Nathan West, returned to the show in September 2025 —but instead of playing Nathan, he took on the role of Nathan’s much darker twin, Cassius Faison, who assumed Nathan’s identity.
As Cassius’ storyline unfolded, it was revealed that he was was working with Sidwell (Carlo Rota) and Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) to complete Cesar Faison’s (Anders Hove) cold fusion project. Though he began showing a softer side during his months posing as Nathan, he abducted Josslyn (Eden McCoy) and imprisoned her below Wyndemere, though he insisted it was for her own protection and promised to keep her alive.
Aware that the walls were closing in on him, Cassius attempted to flee Port Charles with Nathan’s young son, James (Gary James Fuller), who he had come to love as his own. He was thwarted by Cody (Josh Kelly), so after saying a painful goodbye to James, he took off alone.
On the July 2 episode, Cassius arrived at Wyndemere just in time to save Carly (Laura Wright) from being killed by one of Cullum’s men and gave her the key code for the cell where Josslyn and his mother, Obrecht (Kathleen Gati), were being held. He then made his way to the docks where Cullum and his cronies were preparing to take the completed cold fusion reactor off the island.
He fired at Cullum but missed, sparking a shootout that left him pinned down.

Carly managed to free Josslyn, who raced to Cassius’ aid. Noting that they were outnumbered, Cassius suggested they retreat, but when Joss saw Cullum trying to leave with the device, she chased after him and was quickly shot down.
After taking out the gunman who shot Josslyn, Cassius tried to tend to her, only for Cullum to get the drop on him. Kicking away Cassius’s dropped weapon, Cullum taunted that with the WSB on the way, he would lie that he managed to stop Cassius and Sidwell from absconding with the weapon they built. “And then I was forced to kill you,” Cullum added. “In the line of duty, of course.”
Cullum fired his gun and hit Cassius square in the chest, driving him to the ground. Cullum heard a sound behind him and turned around — and Josslyn shot the double agent point-blank with a shotgun. The WSB helicopter landed nearby, and two armed soldiers flanked an agent (John Oliver) as he surveyed the carnage. The agent briefly checked Cassius’ pulse, then left him lying there and ignored Cullum completely to check on Josslyn.
If this is the end of Cassius, how do you feel about saying good-bye to Ryan Paevey again? Share your thoughts in the comments.
