General Hospital Comings and Goings: Wes Ramsey Is Back as Peter August
Wes Ramsey made a surprise return to General Hospital on the July 2 episode, reprising the villainous role of Peter August. But there’s a twist: as with his last appearance in January, Peter is once again appearing as a hallucination in the troubled mind of his aunt, Anna Devane (Finola Hughes).
Wes Ramsey Returns as Peter on GH
Ramsey originally played Peter on GH from 2017-2022, when his character was fatally struck with a tire iron by Felicia (Kristina Wagner) in defense of her daughter, Maxie (Kirsten Storms). Anna claimed she was going to call an ambulance, but instead lingered by Peter’s side as he took his last breath, wanting to confirm with her own eyes that he was truly dead.
When Ramsey reprised Peter in January, he told TV Insider that it “made a lot of sense that Peter would be a symbolic manifestation of Anna Devane’s guilty conscience, based on some of the things she’s gone through in her life.”
He also raved about getting to work again with Anna’s portrayer, Finola Hughes, declaring, “The greatest gift and the gift that keeps on giving is any time I ever have an opportunity to work alongside her. She instantly inspires me, and I always know when we get together that we’re going to have a lot of fun.”
What Peter’s Return Means for Anna
Peter’s return answers one of the biggest mysteries teased by GH’s head writers, Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten, in Soap Opera Digest‘s exclusive GH summer preview. In the preview, the scribes warned that “the long-term effects of her imprisonment and gaslighting at Cullum’s [Andrew Hawkes] hands” would become obvious as Anna’s return unfolds and hinted that “any happy reunions with friends and family are colored by counsel from a less-than-reliable source.”
That less-than-reliable source, viewers now know, is Peter — or at least the Peter that exists in Anna’s psyche.
On the show, Anna has been undergoing treatment at a clinic in Aix-Les-Bains, France for months after she was pumped full of hallucinogens by the captors who had kept her trapped in a cell beneath Wyndemere for months. At various points, the drugs caused Anna to hallucinate several people: Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati), who is alive, as well as two villains who died on camera, Peter and his father, Cesar Faison (Anders Hove).
Anna appeared to be regaining her grip on reality and alerted Felicia (Kristina Wagner) that “Nathan West” — Faison’s son by Obrecht, who had seemingly made a miraculous return from the dead in September 2025 — was not actually Nathan but rather his heretofore unknown identical twin, Cassius Faison (Ryan Paevey).
While Felicia was somewhat skeptical of this claim, she did place a call to Port Charles warning Cody (Josh Kelly) to keep “Nathan” away from little James (Gary James Fuller), and on the July 1 episode, Cody successfully blocked Cassius from escaping with the real Nathan’s young son.
On July 2, after Felicia got confirmation that Cassius had been impersonating Nathan, she apologized to Anna for doubting her. At Anna’s behest, Felicia corroborated her story to her therapist, Dr. Laurent (Kavi Ramachandran), who declared that she had made “tremendous progress” in separating reality from her hallucinations and that she was ready to go home.
But after a poignant heart-to-heart between Anna and Felicia, GH revealed Peter’s shocking return.
Anna closed the door to her room at the clinic behind Felicia and drew in a deep breath. “Nicely done,” said a familiar voice. Anna turned to face the speaker, and the camera pulled back to reveal Peter, sitting in a chair across the room. “Do you think she bought it?” Peter asked.
The action ended there, but it seems clear that Anna’s vision of Peter will follow her home to Port Charles. In Digest‘s summer preview, the head writers also divulged that Anna returns to town “with deadly intentions.” Putting the clues together, it seems that Peter will be nudging Anna to kill someone… but who?
