General Hospital Recap: Jack Kisses Nina, Sonny Plots Against Valentin, Trina and Josslyn Reconnect
On General Hospital on Friday, July 17, Jack (Chris McKenna) planted a kiss on Nina (Cynthia Watros), Sonny (Maurice Benard) had a new job for Brick (Stephen A. Smith), Lulu (Alexa Havins) gave Ethan (Nathan Dean) a warning, Ava (Maura West) offered Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) some advice, Molly (Kristen Vaganos) and Cody (Josh Kelly) reached a milestone in their romance, and Josslyn (Eden McCoy) and Trina (Tabyana Ali) tried to fix their fractured friendship. Here’s how it all happened.
Kiss-met
After striking out with their search for his black box at Wyndemere, Jack and Nina went to the Brown Dog for drinks. Jack worried that his superiors were considering transferring him after the Cullum disaster, then asked Nina what motivated her to go to such extremes to help Willow. Nina explained that her children were cruelly taken from her, so she was unable to protect Willow from unthinkable trauma. But now that she was in Willow’s life, Nina would risk anything to stay there.
Next, Jack apologized for having blackmailed Nina to get information from Charlotte in exchange for the traffic cam footage of Willow and confided that he should have asked her out instead. Then he would have gotten to know Nina before she had to save his life. When Nina sniffed that Jack sounded like he was holding that against her, he acknowledged that he didn’t do gratitude well. Then, to show her how grateful he actually was, Jack stood up from his barstool and kissed Nina!

Buyer Beware
Across the bar at another table, Ethan pushed Lulu to open up about the revelation that Cassius had been impersonating Nathan. While Lulu beat herself up over risking her friendship with Maxie for a man who turned out to be a fraud, Ethan offered that Cassius’s feelings for Lulu may have been real. As their conversation turned toward Ethan’s shooting and recovery, he asked his sister for background on Ava.
Piecing together that Ethan was interested in Ava and likely working an angle, Lulu warned that Ava was out of his league. Ethan conceded that he was attracted to Ava and that their arrangement was mutually beneficial (not letting his sister know that Ava was keeping his secret about Phoebe). Lulu chuckled that Ava would decimate him if she ever found out he’d been playing her, but Ethan contended that he knew exactly what he was doing when it came to Ava.

Sneak Attack
When Carly dropped off Donna at Sonny’s, the exes got into it about her relationship with Valentin. Sonny worried that the danger surrounding Valentin would impact Donna, but Carly made it clear that Sonny needed to respect her decision. Brick stopped by as Carly was leaving, and he picked up on the tension between her and Sonny.
Determined to get Valentin out of Carly and Donna’s lives, Sonny asked Brick to dig up dirt he could use to neutralize the man. Brick agreed to look for incriminating information but said he respected Sonny and Carly too much to go behind Carly’s back and try to drive Valentin away. Brick made it clear that he’d bring whatever he found to Carly so she could choose for herself. Wanting Valentin gone, Sonny told Brick to do whatever was needed, and they shook hands in agreement.

Boxed In
Carly returned home to find Valentin cooking dinner. When she brought up Anna’s return, Valentin questioned whether Carly was concerned that he still had feelings for his ex. When Carly was unsure how to reconcile that Valentin still cared for Anna, he compared it to her relationship with Sonny. Although he admitted that Anna was the first woman he’d loved, Valentin said he had no intention of letting their past affect his current relationship and reassured Carly of his feelings for her.
As they began kissing, Carly backed into a black case on the floor. Valentin explained that he’d needed an incentive to have the WSB speed up the release of his finances, so he went to Wyndemere to look for anything Cullum had left behind. He speculated that the black box was Cullum’s, and whatever was inside could be valuable if he could figure out how to open the secured safe.

Pop Culture
Under the guise of bringing a baby gift, Ava visited Brook Lynn to ask about the adoption progress. Suspecting that Ava knew who Phoebe’s biological father was, Brook Lynn accused her of acting as an intermediary to broker a payoff. Ava insisted that her only role had been to connect Alexis with the gallery where Delilah had worked, but Brook Lynn pressed whether Ava had found Phoebe’s father in New York City.
After flashing back to Ethan’s confession in the stockroom that Phoebe wasn’t his daughter, Ava truthfully replied that she didn’t know who Phoebe’s father was. She then encouraged Brook Lynn not to look for trouble and trust that the man who signed the adoption papers wanted a happy home for Phoebe.

Love You S’more
Out at the Quartermaine stables, Molly consoled Cody, who was crushed that he’d hurt James with the news that Cassius had been pretending to be his father, Nathan. Molly reassured Cody that delivering the bad news was a selfless act. Dejected, Cody credited James as the reason he’d stuck around Port Charles; he’d finally felt like he was part of a family, and James made him want to be a man worthy of being with Molly. In return, Molly shared that she was proud to be Cody’s partner. After making him a s’more in an attempt to cheer him up, Molly declared her love for him. Cody sweetly replied that he loved her, too, and the couple shared a passionate kiss.

Butter Late Than Never
While at the hospital to meet her baby brother, Trina learned that Josslyn was a patient. Racing to Josslyn’s room, Trina blasted her best friend for not telling her about the gunshot wound after months of mysteriously being out of town. Josslyn shocked her roommate with the confession that she was a WSB agent and that the injury happened during a mission. Trina was hurt that her roommate had lied, but realized that was why Josslyn had been distant lately.
Josslyn hoped that her career choice didn’t come at the cost of their friendship, but Trina pointed out that their lives have taken very different paths recently. Josslyn didn’t even know she went no-contact with her parents or that she and Gio were offered a record contract. The trust between them strained, Josslyn and Trina weren’t sure where their friendship stood. When Josslyn begged for a chance to start over on Trina’s terms, Trina suggested they use the code word “popcorn” when there was something Josslyn couldn’t discuss, rather than lie. Even though it violated WSB protocol, Josslyn agreed to have “popcorn” with her best friend.
