Will General Hospital Pair Nina and Jack Brennan? Cynthia Watros Reacts (Exclusive)
On General Hospital, Nina’s association with Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna) has been characterized by threats and blackmail. But there’s a thin line between love and hate — especially on soaps. Could the mistrust and tension between the characters actually put them on the road to romance, especially now that his relationship with her mortal enemy, Carly (Laura Wright), is skating on such thin ice? That’s the question Soap Opera Digest posed to Nina’s portrayer, Cynthia Watros.
Enemies, A Love Story?
Nina is no stranger to a love story with twisted beginnings. For example, her romance with Franco (Roger Howarth) sparked when they were both fugitives and later institutionalized together at Shadybrook, and she infamously fell for Sonny (Maurice Benard) while he was presumed dead and amnesiac and she concealed his true identity from him. Watros says she could absolutely see Nina once again putting the fun in dysfunctional with her choice of romantic partner. “I love the idea!” she says of Nina getting involved with Brennan.
Even though Nina and Jack are often at odds, the GH star notes, “I think they have some things in common because Brennan has his work, but he doesn’t have a lot of friends and he doesn’t have a whole lot of family. He seems pretty isolated.”
They also have a common conundrum in Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), Nina’s daughter, who is currently blackmailing her and attempting to bribe him. “I love the idea of them trying to come together and work together to get out of this mess,” muses Watros.
And while they don’t know yet that his paramour, Carly, is cheating on him with Nina’s ex, Valentin (James Patrick Stuart), that particular secret coming to light might give Nina and Brennan a common enemy. “I can only imagine how much that’s going to trigger Nina,” the actress shudders. “I don’t know if Nina and Valentin would ever get back together, but she always has love for him, so I’m sure she is not going to like the idea of him and Carly being together! I think she’s going to be really hurt.”
If Nina and Jack ever do hook up, that would make Brennan the sixth guy to have hit the sheets with both Nina and Carly, joining Franco, Jax (Ingo Rademacher), Sonny, Drew (Cameron Mathison) and Valentin. “I guess we travel in small circles,” chuckles Watros. “There aren’t a lot of eligible guys in Port Charles — we have to recycle!”
