General Hospital Poll Results: This Is Who Fans Think Should Have Gotten Monica’s House

Comments

There is no doubt that Monica Quartermaine stirred the family pot on General Hospital when she left the mansion (that Alan gave her!) to her previously unmentioned sister, Ronnie Bard (Erika Slezak). But the Quartermaines weren’t the only ones taken off guard — so were GH fans who were sure they knew which character was about to inherit the deed, and the bragging rights, to the house Monica left behind.

Inherit the Wind

Soap Opera Digest polled fans about who should get the mansion, and almost 8,500 wanted to have their say about Monica’s choice. Unfortunately for two members of the former chief-of-staff’s family, they didn’t even earn enough votes to get a full percentage point. Who lost out big time? That would be Dillon — no surprise there, since Tracy’s son hasn’t lived in Port Charles for years — and Congressman Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison), family outcast and all-around awful excuse of a human being. Despite being Jason’s (Steve Burton) twin, Drew couldn’t muster any support. Perhaps he shouldn’t have tried to demolish the Quartermaine crypt, especially considering it’s now Monica’s final resting place.

Out of the Running

There were a few other relatives who didn’t do much better, only registering in single digits. That kin would include Monica’s former flame/nephew Ned (Wally Kurth) at 1%, Monica’s sister Ronnie (who really did inherit the mansion) at 2%, Ned’s daughter Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) at almost 4%, and the catch-all “Someone else,” which received a slightly larger yet still modest 4% of the vote.

A Grand Chance

Garnering a full 21% of the entire voting bloc was Michael (Rory Gibson). It’s easy to understand why Michael would pull in a lot of support, seeing as he’s Monica’s only biological grandchild. As her late son AJ’s only heir, most of the Quartermaines likewise expected Michael to be the one to inherit the mansion. Michael (who was primarily raised by adoptive father Sonny Corinthos) may not have grown up with the Quartermaines, but in recent years, he has shown his love for the family and Monica in particular and put down roots in the house. His kids, Wiley and Amelia, had also grown close to her, and she loved them all dearly.

Sister Act

Throughout the years, sisters-in-law Tracy (Jane Elliot) and Monica fought like crazy, mostly due to Tracy never thinking that her brother’s wife was worthy of their last name. Despite that, 25% of fans still thought Monica would leave the mansion to the woman who had become like a sister to her — rather than her actual sister. It would have been a beautiful gesture for Tracy, as the last one standing, to have been able to utter those words, “It’s my house — Monica gave it to me,” after having to put up with decades of Monica throwing it in her face that Alan had given her the house. Alas, that didn’t happen.

The Prodigal Son

In an interesting turn, a whopping 42% expected Monica to leave the mansion to Jason, Alan’s son by his mistress Susan Moore whom Monica adopted, raised and loved with all of her heart. Fans thought he would be the appropriate person to inherit the home, despite the fact Jason shunned Monica and the family for many years after the car accident that wiped away his memory. After all, he did finally return home and did his best to make up for that time away. It would have been a beautiful way for Monica to show him she appreciated his return to the family, the mansion and to her, while also giving him a safe place to welcome and raise his own children.

Will Ronnie hold on to the house and move in — or will she do something shocking with it? Stay tuned.
