General Hospital: Cassius Faison’s Secret Origin Story Revealed

Comments

When Ryan Paevey returned to General Hospital in September 2025 after his character, Nathan West, was killed off in 2018, people on the show — as well as fans — wondered how Nathan could be alive after all these years. It was later revealed that Paevey was actually playing Nathan’s twin brother, Cassius Faison, who had assumed his brother’s identity, but that only raised more questions. In the June 9 episode, viewers finally got some answers.

The Whole Truth and Nothing But

Thrown into the holding cell beneath Wyndemere with Josslyn (Eden McCoy), Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) was thrilled when “Nathan” opened the door, assuming he was there to help rescue them. Liesl was stunned to learn that while he was her son, he wasn’t Nathan, but his twin, whom she believed had died at birth.

Relating the circumstances of the boys’ births, Obrecht explained how she’d required an emergency C-section, and when she woke up, her sister, Madeline (Donna Mills), informed her that one of the babies had died. Cassius revealed that Madeline had lied to everyone; he had survived, and Madeline had given him to his father, Cesar Faison (Anders Hove), to raise. He explained that it was a kind of trade; Faison was allowed to raise Cassius himself in exchange for promising Madeline that he would leave Liesl alone. Fighting back tears, Obrecht wondered what this meant for Nathan, and Cassius confirmed that his heroic twin had died when Faison shot him.

Cassius explained that he’d needed to be able to hide in plain sight, so he assumed Nathan’s identity and tampered with the necessary records to make his impersonation appear legit. When Obrecht asked what happened to her son’s body, Cassius confessed that he’d had it cremated and spread his ashes at sea. Liesl recalled feeling such joy when she thought Nathan had returned to her and lashed out at Cassius for being a liar. He argued that he was still her son, and Josslyn suggested he prove it by helping them escape.

Cassius’s face fell as he told them how, after Faison was killed, Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) and Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) needed him to help them finish his father’s final project. He added that when they roped Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) into their plans, he did whatever he could to keep his sister safe. Obrecht slapped Cassius across the face and blasted him for making everyone believe Nathan had returned from the dead, noting that it was especially cruel to trick Nathan’s little boy, James (Gary James Fuller), into thinking he had his father back.

Josslyn argued that Cassius wasn’t completely evil, crediting him with helping keep both her and Britt alive. Cassius promised Obrecht that he’d planned to get both himself and Britt out of their arrangement with Sidwell and Cullum as soon as the villainous men had what they were after — but everything changed when his sister went on the run. Obrecht realized she’d been kidnapped to finish the work Britt had started. Cassius warned that they’d kill her if she refused, but assured her he’d give his own life to protect her. Touched, Obrecht declared she would do whatever was necessary to prevent losing another one of her sons.

GH viewers now know how Cesar came to raise Cassius … but appear no closer to understanding why the criminal mastermind treated Obrecht like dirt for not bearing him a male heir when he knew darn well that she did!
