Steve and Kayla Tied the Knot on Days of Our Lives and Other Big Soap Moments From July 25

In 1988, Days Of Our Lives's Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) said, “I do” as the two-episode ceremony featuring their lavish wedding concluded. Kayla was floored when Steve arranged for them to wed aboard a yacht (her childhood dream) in lieu of the Brady Fish Market. Sporting mother Caroline’s veil and a silk satin, Chantilly lace and silk chiffon gown, Kayla’s love for Steve was so great, she miraculously recovered her ability to hear and speak mid-vows (her bolo tie-wearing groom signed his). Overjoyed, they exchanged rings, and Kayla remarked, “I dreamed of being in love. I never dreamed of sharing my very soul. I dreamed of sharing my thoughts, but I never dreamed that someone could hear me without words.” “I’m yours, forever,” they told each other. After the minister pronounced them married and Steve and Kayla shared a tender kiss, then he offered her his arm, addressing her as “Mrs. Johnson”. The guests and the newlyweds then enjoyed the reception, which was also held on the yacht. Marcus, who had known Steve since they were kids in an orphanage together, delivered a toast wishing them a long and happy life. John (who was believed to be Roman at the time) read a congratulatory telegram from Bo, Hope and Shawn-Douglas (who were in Australia), then spoke on behalf of the Bradys, remarking, “There was a time I never thought I would say it, but now I say it with great pride: Welcome to the family.” Kayla shared a dance with her father, and Steve took mom Jo for a spin on the dance floor. Then, as the evening drew to a close, Steve presented Kayla with another surprise: a gondola to whisk them away. “I don’t know how you do it,” Kayla marveled. “You reach inside my soul and my heart and you pull out my dreams. And then you just give them to me.” Fun fact: the Soap Opera Digest cover depicting the nuptials was the magazine's all-time best-selling issue.

In 1991, Jensen Buchanan (pictured with Paul Michael Valley, who played Ryan Harrison) assumed the role of Another World’s Vicky Hudson. Buchanan was the fourth actress to play feisty heroine Vicky, following Ellen Wheeler, Rhonda Lewin and Anne Heche. Buchanan, who had previously played Sarah Gordon Buchanan on One Life to Live, remained with the show until its cancellation in 1999, and also (at times) played Vicky's twin, Marley Hudson.

In 2006, rising superstar Rihanna performed at the opening of ConFusion (the nightclub adjacent to the headquarters of cosmetics company Fusion) on All My Children as Julia Santos Keefer (Sydney Penny) and Jamie Martin (Justin Bruening) looked on.

In 2007, Days of Our Lives’s Shawn Brady (Brandon Beemer) asked Belle Black (Martha Madison) to marry him. The lovebirds were on the beach and Belle commented on the sparkling water. Shawn slyly inquired as to whether the water was as sparkly as what he had — then displayed a diamond ring and popped the question!

In 2016 on General Hospital, Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart, r.) shot Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) in the arm when he jumped in front of Laura Webber (Genie Francis) and took a bullet for his future wife. At the time, Valentin was holding Kevin and Laura hostage alongside a number of other Port Charles residents, including Sam, Dante and Lulu.
