What Happened to Nathan on General Hospital? His True Fate Revealed

Comments

It appeared that Nathan had returned from the dead on General Hospital back in September 2025, just months after his sister, Britt (Kelly Thiebaud), had also been resurrected. But in the March 31, 2026, episode, viewers learned that the character Ryan Paevey has been playing since his return to the soap was actually Cassius Faison. This shocking twist created a multitude of questions for fans. Who is Cassius, and what is his connection to Nathan? Is he a long-lost twin or someone with plastic surgery to resemble the late cop? And since Britt is really still alive, what does this mean for the actual Nathan West?

A Hero Until the End

Paevey originally joined the cast of GH back in December 2013 as Nathan West, and remained with the soap until the heroic police detective met a tragic end in January 2018. After they discovered that notorious supervillain Cesar Faison (Anders Hove) was Nathan’s biological father, Maxie (Kirsten Storms) was right to fear for their safety. Finding Faison holding a pregnant Maxie at gunpoint at the Metro Court, Nathan tried to rescue his wife. Faison shot him in the chest, not realizing until after he’d pulled the trigger that the target was his very own son.

Nathan was rushed to G.H. for emergency surgery, and his loved ones visited him in recovery. While Maxie was by his bedside, he opened his eyes, and she assured him that he’d saved the lives of her and their baby. “I love you, Maxie,” Nathan declared. “Like there’s no tomorrow.” He then closed his eyes and flatlined. Doctors and nurses worked frantically, but were unable to revive him.

At the decorated cop’s funeral, Maxie stood by Nathan’s gravesite and asked her late sister, Georgie (Lindze Letherman), to take care of him. Leaning back, she briefly felt Nathan’s presence holding her, and when that was gone, she turned and had a vision through her tears of Georgie escorting Nathan to the other side.

Good and Evil

When a man resembling Nathan was found in a crashed car on the side of the road seven years after the detective’s death, fingerprints and DNA indicated that this was, indeed, Nathan back from the dead. But over time, viewers noted some odd behavior that called his true identity into question, and it was ultimately revealed that he was really Cassius Faison, in league with Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota).

In the April 1 episode, Sidwell referred to Cassius as “the twin brother of the late, great Nathan West.” And the previously unknown sibling confirmed Nathan’s unfortunate fate when he boasted, “Nathan died the night he was shot, but I have convinced everyone otherwise.” His mission was to take over his twin’s life and embed himself into the PCPD to facilitate Sidwell’s nefarious plans, so Cassius appears to be the polar opposite of the noble Nathan.

“I may never have had the chance to cement my identity to everyone in Port Charles if Maxie had been here to greet me,” Cassius gloated to Sidwell. “She and Nathan knew each other so well.” But working in his favor was the fact that Sidwell had taken Nathan’s former wife out of the picture temporarily, courtesy of some poisoned face cream. “Maxie being in a coma bought me the time I needed,” the impostor continued. “By the time she came back, I had my brother’s life down pat, so she had no reason to doubt me.”

While this twist sadly means that Nathan West truly is dead and gone, this storyline is clearly nowhere near over. Who will be the first to see through “Nathan’s” facade and discover what’s really going on? Share your thoughts on the latest turn of events in the comments below!
