The Young and the Restless and Beyond the Gates Stars Preview the Big Crossover Event

Comments

The big crossover between Young and Restless and Beyond the Gates featuring Y&R stars Eric Braeden (Victor), Peter Bergman (Jack), Susan Walters (Diane), Michael Mealor (Kyle), Bryton James (Devon) and Melissa Ordway (Abby) kicks off in the Tuesday, June 9, episode of BTG, as the Genoa City crew travels to Fairmont Crest to attend a gala fundraiser for Congressman Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon). Some of the actors involved in this special event opened up about the experience and teased the drama to come in a new interview with TV Insider.

A Night to Remember

The Y&R stars asked to do the crossover episodes were excited by the opportunity to travel to Atlanta, where CBS’s newest soap is taped — perhaps none more so than Bergman. “When they told me this was going to happen, I responded so quickly,” the actor shared. “It’s always fun to go play Jack somewhere else, so I said, ‘Yes, I’d do it for free… Oh, did I just say that out loud?’ They didn’t make me do it for free, but it’s such a kick.”

His on-screen wife, Walters, has worked in Atlanta before; her prime-time series Teen Wolf and Vampire Diaries, were both shot there. Walters was happy to see some familiar faces among the crew at the BTG studio. Diane attends the fundraiser alongside her husband, Jack, and son, Kyle, despite being on the outs with her spouse back in the world of Genoa City. Teased Walters, “I don’t know — maybe she’s looking around since she and Jack are having marital problems. She’s got some options [among the partygoers].”

Atlanta native Mealor admitted he was initially surprised to be invited along for the special episodes, but then learned that Kyle has a connection to the Congressman at the heart of this fundraiser. “Story-wise, Kyle and Martin were friends back when they were both living in New York,” the actor noted. “Kyle was a bit of a cat; he did what he wanted. And Martin seemed to be the voice of reason for everything. He was on the straight and narrow and tried to calm Kyle down, but they were still the best of friends.”

As seen in the promo for the exciting crossover episodes, a tornado strikes, throwing some unlikely characters into each other’s orbits, like Kyle and BTG schemer Hayley (Marquita Goings) — and from what Goings had to say about it, the crisis might lead to some steamy moments! “I was surprised more than anything when I read what was actually taking place,” she shared. “Just with the interactions and stuff like that with Hayley being a married woman. I’m just going to leave it at that.”

With Martin’s elegant fundraising party doomed to become a disaster scene when the tornado strikes, the Congressman’s portrayer, Claybon, hinted that viewers are “not going to be ready for this…. It’s going to be awesome.”
