General Hospital Reveals How Kristina Will Leave Port Charles When Kate Mansi Exits the Soap
As soon as it was reported that Kate Mansi was leaving General Hospital, the question became how Kristina would be written off the canvas. In an interview with former Soap Opera Digest Editorial Director Stephanie Sloane regarding her exit, the actress said, “It feels like the right time for both Kristina and me to step into new adventures.” And in the May 26 episode, the soap appeared to foreshadow the specific new adventure that will take the character out of Port Charles once again.
Paging Dr. Corinthos-Davis?
After a conversation with mom Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) regarding Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), Kristina and Molly (Kristen Vaganos) were outside of Bobbie’s discussing inviting the teen to dinner so their nephew would know he could rely on them. But in the middle of their conversation, Kristina was distracted by a notification on her phone. She then revealed to Molly the big news contained in that notification: “I got accepted to medical school.”
When the action picks up in Tuesday’s episode, viewers can expect to learn more about this development — and perhaps get the backstory behind Kristina’s sudden pivot from running Charlie’s Pub to pursuing a career in medicine.
If Kristina does leave town to become a doctor, it won’t be the first time that the character’s departure from the canvas has been tied to her pursuit of higher learning. Back when Lexi Ainsworth, who played the role on and off from 2009-2023, first exited the soap in November 2011, Kristina transferred from PCU to Yale, not realizing that at Alexis’s behest, her dad, Sonny (Maurice Benard), had pulled some strings to get her off the waitlist.
Kristina returned to Port Charles in May 2012, now played by Lindsey Morgan, and revealed that she’d dropped out of school after everyone found out how she’d gotten into Yale and called her a mob princess. Morgan left GH in March 2013, and a few months later, Molly shared the news that Kristina had been taking some summer classes at Wesleyan University, hoping to enroll as a full-time student in the fall.
Kristina returned to Port Charles in September 2015, once again played by Ainsworth and harboring a huge secret: she was on academic suspension from Wesleyan, where she had been studying prelaw. Kristina eventually admitted to her big sister, Sam (Kelly Monaco), that she had gotten suspended after offering to have sex with one of her professors in exchange for a better grade. Said professor turned out to be a woman named Parker Forsyth (Ashley Jones), with whom Kristina was subsequently in a romantic relationship (the pair briefly lived together in Oregon before splitting up off camera).
Mansi stepped into the role of Kristina back in May 2023 and earned a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2025. Although the actress has already filmed her last scenes, her final episode won’t air until sometime in June.
