General Hospital Comings & Goings: Kate Mansi Exits as Kristina — ‘Very Difficult Decision’

Comments

General Hospital fans will soon be saying good-bye to Kate Mansi, who joined the Port Charles ranks as Kristina Corinthos-Davis on May 24, 2023. It was the Daytime Emmy-winning actress’s decision to leave the soap at the conclusion of her three-year contract, she confirmed in the new edition of former Soap Opera Digest Editorial Director Stephanie Sloane’s newsletter, SoapSteph’s Soap Dish.

Kate Mansi Says Goodbye to GH

Mansi told Sloane that the decision to leave was “very difficult,” and was prompted by the need to travel — her husband, producer Matt McInnis, is working on a TV series that is filming overseas — and to focus on some new projects she’s developing. She called her time on the show “a meaningful and unforgettable ride” and noted that “it feels like the right time for both Kristina and me to step into new adventures.”

The show’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, told Sloane that he was supportive of Mansi’s decision and that “the door is always open” for her to return.

The actress filmed her final episode in April but will continue to be seen on screen into June. In fact, Kristina is slated to receive big news on Tuesday, May 26.

Mansi made her soap opera debut on Days of Our Lives, where she played Abigail Deveraux DiMera from 2011–16 and again from 2018–2020, taking home the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her portrayal of the troubled heroine.

When she was tapped to assume the role of Kristina three years later, she succeeded another Daytime Emmy winner, Lexi Ainsworth, who had played Kristina on and off since 2009. Mansi told Soap Opera Digest that when she accepted the job, “I reached out to[Ainsworth] before I did anything else because she’s a friend of mine and someone I respect so much as an actress. We had a great conversation and I wanted to just make sure that she knew how absolutely adored she is by me and the cast and the fans, and that I would do my best to honor her work.”

For her work as Kristina, Mansi was nominated for a Daytime Emmy as Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2025. During her time on GH, Mansi also stepped behind the camera, directing the episode that aired on November 18, 2025 as well as the March 26, 2026 show.

Her years on GH were momentous for Mansi on a personal level, as well: She got engaged to McInnis in July 2024, and the following June, she revealed that the duo had tied the knot in a surprise ceremony attended by family and friends, including Kristen Vaganos (Molly) and Giovanni Mazza (Gio), who played the violin as she made her way down the aisle.

Kristina, the daughter of Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) and Sonny (Maurice Benard), was born on screen in 2002. As a baby, the role was shared by multiple sets of twins, and Kali Roriguez assumed the role for a three-year run from 2005-08 before Ainsworwth came aboard from 2009-11. Kristina was recast with Lindsey Morgan in May 2012, but her run ended in March 2013 and when the character returned in 2015, Ainsworth was once again playing the role.
