General Hospital Alum Kelly Monaco Breaks 14-Month Social Media Silence on 50th Birthday
Beloved General Hospital alum Kelly Monaco (ex-Sam McCall) posted on Instagram for the first time since March 2025, breaking her social media hiatus to mark a personal milestone: her 50th birthday.
Kelly Monaco’s Birthday Greeting
On Saturday, May 23, the actress shared a video depicting herself working out on an outdoor track with her nephew, Chris Monaco. “Today I turned 50!” she declared. “There’s no place like home… coach @__monaco getting me back in shape. 💕”
In the video, Monaco watched her nephew demonstrate an exercise and dancing to Mary J. Blige’s “Real Love,” singing along with the lyrics before she joined him in the exercise routine. She closed out the video with yet more dancing and threw up a peace sign.
The comment section of the birthday post was flooded with comments from friends, fans and former castmates. Kimberly McCullough (ex-Robin, GH) wrote, “Yes, girl, get it!” Monaco’s former on-screen sister Lexi Ainsworth (ex-Kristina) cheered, “Looking fiine as ever 🔥.” B&B star Rebecca Budig (ex-Hayden; Taylor, The Bold and the Beautiful) chimed in to say, “Happy Birthday, beauty. Go go go.” Another GH alum, Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr/ex-Kiki) beamed, “Happy birthday to the coolest chick around!” Former GH love interest Ingo Rademacher (ex-Jax) also offered a, “Happy birthday Kelly!🙌”

Cameron Mathison (Drew, GH) — who, like Monaco, is a past competitor on Dancing with the Stars, wrote, “👏👏👏.” DWTS’s former host, Tom Bergeon, winked, “Those are the kind of moves that won you that 1st Mirror Ball Trophy.” Monaco took home the prize on the show’s first season back in 2005.
Monaco’s post was liked by yet more stars with GH ties, including Maurice Benard (Sonny), Josh Kelly (Cody), Josh Swickard (Chase) and Haley Pullos, who played Molly, the sister of Monaco’s Sam. The post had been liked nearly 8,5000 times within the first 12 hours it was public.
Monaco kicked off her soap career in 2000 when she was tapped to play Livvie Locke on the GH spinoff Port Charles. When PC was canceled in 2003, she was quickly signed to a contract by GH, where she made her Port Charles debut as Sam on October 1, 2003. She became one of the show’s most popular and recognizable stars, and when the show killed Sam off in October 2024 after a 21-year run, fans were in an uproar.
Prior to her birthday message, Monaco’s last post on her Instagram account was on March 13, 2025, when she and longtime pal Shanna Moakler announced their upcoming podcast, Bad Bunnies. Moakler subsequently posted in July on her own Instagram that the podcast wasn’t happening, responding to a fan inquiry by writing, “We are not doing it. She is dealing with some personal things.”
