General Hospital Recap: Valentin Descends Upon Carly, Cyrus and Esme Haunt Laura and More!
Thanksgiving Night came to a close on the December 5 episode of General Hospital with some disturbing news being delivered to several folks in Port Charles. As Laura (Genie Francis) was visited in a horrible nightmare by Cyrus (Jeff Kober) and Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl), Sidwell (Carlo Rota) visited Sonny (Maurice Benard) to blackmail the mayor’s accomplice. Meanwhile, Jason (Steve Burton) took care of a drunk Britt (Kelly Thiebaud), Carly’s (Laura Wright) attempt to smooth things over with Lucas (Van Hansis) was a bust, Jack (Chris McKenna) gave Josslyn (Eden McCoy) some troubling information about the WSB’s plans, and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) escaped from prison and showed up in Port Charles! In case you missed it, here’s everything that happened.
On Guard
Though he didn’t give in to her demand for a kiss, Jason took a drunk Britt back to her room. Snubbed by the rejection, Britt raged against him for ruining her night out, but Jason refused to leave her alone. When Britt’s alarm went off for a third time, she asked Jason to step out into the hall to give her privacy, snarking that that’s where bodyguards stood since it wasn’t like they were friends. Jason stepped out but left the door open, so Britt closed it herself as her alarm went off again, a reminder to take her nighttime injection. But after taking her medication box out of her nightstand, Britt fell. Rushing back into the room, Jason helped her up and over to the bed as she cried about needing to give herself an injection. Then, picking up a vial and a needle from the floor, Jason prepped the medicine and tenderly administered the shot when Britt’s hand was shaking too much to do it herself. As Jason put Britt into her bed, she cried that she must be drunker than she thought to let him see her stomach. Once Britt fell asleep, Jason settled into the armchair in her room, standing by his promise not to leave her alone.

Keeping Up Appearances
Jack wondered if Carly’s smaller-than-usual Thanksgiving dinner (which had only been them and Josslyn) was because of him, but she insisted that her other family members just had other commitments. She added that she was sad Lucas hadn’t shown up, but that was because of the argument the siblings had had. Jack thought that Carly had patched things up with Lucas, so she explained that she’d decided to wait for a better time to apologize rather than ambush him at work. Positive that she and her brother would work things out eventually, Jack kissed Carly good-bye before heading to work. Carly kept on her doting girlfriend mask until he was out the door, but once alone, she shook off the repulsion and flashed back to her conversation with Valentin about taking Brennan down.

Trina caught Josslyn sneaking around their apartment in the dark, packing an overnight bag. Having noticed Kai’s car outside, Joss planned to find somewhere else to spend the night since she didn’t want to go back to her mom’s. When Trina urged her friend to vent about what was troubling her, Joss confided that she’d had a weird Thanksgiving dinner with her mom and Brennan… and that she’d slept with Vaughn several nights earlier. He’d since ghosted her, and Joss was mad at herself for getting her hopes up and going back to him. Trina told her friend it was okay to be upset since Vaughn had broken her trust, but Joss argued that Vaughn was just doing his job. Then, Josslyn got a text message from Brennan, summoning her to the WSB office, and lied to Trina that she was headed back to her mom’s house since Jack wasn’t staying there after all.

After Josslyn left, Kai woke up and entered the living room, checking to see if everything was all right with Trina’s roommate. She explained that Josslyn was going through a rough patch, so they’d caught up for a bit. Noting that Trina was dealing with a lot lately, too, Kai sat down next to his girlfriend, and she thanked him for being so supportive through the mess with her parents. He promised her that they’d figure out a way to exonerate her parents together, and Trina beamed that, despite everything going on, she was happy because she had him. In return, Kai stated that he wasn’t about to throw away the second chance she’d given him.
Agree To Disagree
Back from visiting Maxie in Boston, Felicia tracked Lucas down at G.H. to thank him for setting his cousin up in the facility. Lucas assured Felicia that he was in contact with Maxie’s care team, and no change in her condition was good news, since it meant she was fighting. Carly arrived soon after, and when she asked about Maxie, Felicia filled her in on the time the family had gotten to spend with her in Boston. When Carly said hearing that made her heart happy, Lucas gave his sister an odd look.
Picking up on the tension between the siblings, Felicia excused herself to get some paperwork done. Carly then offered her brother a plate with a piece of pecan pie she was holding as a peace offering, but Lucas declined the dessert. Carly apologized for not having invited him over for Thanksgiving, and Lucas challenged whether that invitation would have included Marco. When Carly hesitated in answering, an insulted Lucas declared that was exactly why he wouldn’t have gone anyway.

Apologizing for what she’d said during their fight, Carly wished she could take it back, but Lucas declared that he was glad to know how his sister really felt about Marco. Carly maintained that she was just trying to protect him, and Lucas replied that it still hurt that his sister thought he was a fool for moving in with a boyfriend who was just using him. Lucas was caught off guard when Carly confided that she didn’t think he was a fool and that anyone could be taken in. But rather than explain what she meant by that comment, Carly told her brother that she was just trying to prevent him from getting hurt by the person he loved.
Lucas accused his sister of projecting her issues with Sonny onto him. Acknowledging that his relationship with Brad had ended in disaster, Lucas growled that didn’t mean Marco was going to lie to him. Finally, Lucas told his sister that he didn’t want to fight anymore, realizing that he’d never be able to convince her to trust Marco. Until she could accept that Marco was in his life, Lucas added, he needed space. Although disappointed, Carly agreed and tearfully told her brother that he could call her if he needed anything. Then, she handed him the plate of pie and wished him a Happy Thanksgiving before leaving.
Later, Felicia stopped at the hub to good-bye to Lucas on her way out. Bringing up his mother and her own late best friend, Felicia commented that Bobbie had a great capacity for forgiveness, and both Lucas and Carly had those qualities. Noting that Bobbie wouldn’t have wanted the distance between him and Carly, Felicia advised Lucas not to give up on his sister.
Red Flag
When Josslyn got to the WSB field office, Brennan accused her of providing Emma and Gio with the address of Dalton’s second lab, lifted from a classified file. Not denying it, she argued that if the WSB found no evidence linking Dalton to Sidwell or Faison’s project, there was no reason her friends couldn’t save the animals. Jack shouted that she’d gone against protocol and threatened to have her transferred. Joss felt that was a harsh punishment for slipping an address under a door, but Brennan revealed it was for continuing her relationship with Vaughn after he’d warned the two of them to stay away from each other. As pieces clicked into place, Josslyn questioned what Brennan had done to Vaughn, and her boss revealed that the other agent was far away with strict instructions not to contact her. Ordering Josslyn to follow the same directive, Jack warned that she’d find herself in a basement station in Finland if she didn’t. “The only reason that hasn’t happened yet — ” Jack roared, but Josslyn interrupted him before he could finish. “Because you’re sleeping with my mom?” she questioned sarcastically.

Jack then warned Agent Jacks that she was dangerously close to crossing a line, which just made Josslyn more frustrated. “Oh, I’m crossing a line? Meanwhile, you’re just using me to get information out of my own uncle while forcing me to lie to my own mother,” she asserted. When Brennan argued that he’d been very clear about what was expected of her when she joined the WSB, Joss sniped that she understood how that worked for his dating life, but she had no idea what that had to do with national security. Brennan told Josslyn she could torpedo his relationship with Carly after the job was done, but it was imperative to stop Sidwell.
Assuming that the WSB wanted to destroy the technology Sidwell was creating, Josslyn was stunned when Brennan revealed that the agency instead wanted to acquire it for themselves! Refusing to provide Josslyn with further details because the case was classified, Brennan argued that he’d made enough concessions for her and has been doing everything he could to keep her safe because of his relationship with her mother. Then, the phone on Brennan’s desk rang. “Oh my God,” Jack responded to what the person on the other line told him, panic in his eyes.
Meanwhile, following her argument with Lucas at the hospital, Carly returned home. As she headed up the stairs, she paused. Noticing something outside, she picked up the poker tool from the fireplace and approached the window to peer out. Suddenly, a figure approached from behind, and Carly whipped around to attack — but it was Valentin, his face battered and bloodied. “I told you I’d be in touch,” he announced.

I See Dead People
A knock on the door woke a napping Laura, and she was rendered speechless to see her dead brother Cyrus standing on the other side. It turned out that she was just having a nightmare, during which Cyrus’s ghost revealed that he’d sensed she needed him and presented her with an early Christmas gift. When Laura refused to open the box, Cyrus did so himself, revealing the gun that was used to kill Professor Dalton. Crying that she hadn’t shot Dalton, Laura didn’t have an explanation for why the man had been in her trunk. Cyrus declared that she had to do the right thing and take responsibility. Next, the angry ghost of Esme descended the stairs and railed against Laura for taking her son away from her, then informed Laura that she’d hidden Ace away since Laura was a liar, unfit for raising a child. Cyrus chimed in that he and Laura were more alike than she’d ever wanted to admit. “Deep down, you knew I was right. Don’t you see?” Cyrus told his sister, who suddenly had the gun in her hand.

Laura was startled as she awoke from her nightmare just before Kevin returned home from attending to his patient. Hugging her husband, Laura revealed that Jenz Sidwell had been the one to put Dalton’s body in her trunk, and he’d been there earlier to blackmail her. Then, an anxious Laura told him about her horrible nightmare with Cyrus and Esme. Kevin noted that her subconscious was telling her what she wanted to do, not what she should do. Talking through her options, Kevin reminded Laura to consider Ace in whatever decision she made, and she worried about what would happen to her grandson. He also suggested that it might work in Laura’s favor that Anna and the PCPD knew what Sidwell was capable of, but Laura moaned that Anna was away on assignment for the WSB. Holding back tears, Laura cried that she couldn’t turn herself in without implicating Sonny since Detective Nathan West had seen them at the site together.
As she debated going to the police, Laura wondered if a jury would believe Sonny had nothing to do with Dalton’s death, to which Kevin responded with an incredulous look. He told his wife that if she didn’t come forward, she’d have to reckon with what it meant to give in to Sidwell’s demands. Laura felt she could mitigate whatever damage Sidwell had her impart on the city by staying one step ahead of the criminal, but Kevin thought that was a huge burden for her to carry. Revealing that she wasn’t going to be alone, Laura replied, “I’m sure that I’m not the only one being blackmailed. And whatever Sidwell wants from me is gonna pale in comparison to what he wants from Sonny.”

Got You Where I Want You
Sidwell paid Sonny a visit, saying he wanted to clear some things up before the mobster had him killed. When Sonny questioned why he would do that, Sidwell remarked that not having any current motive to do so would be the perfect opportunity for Sonny to take him out. After Sonny agreed that it was a good argument, Sidwell said there was another factor to consider and pulled out the photo of Sonny and Laura with Dalton’s dead body. Sidwell laughed when Sonny stated he’d been helping out a friend who had car trouble, and proclaimed that the photo looked like conspiracy to commit murder or obstruction of justice more than “car trouble.” With a smile, Sonny goaded Sidwell to present a body since there was no evidence of the man being dead, and Sidwell countered that he had more than enough to put both Corinthos and Mayor Collins away. Getting down to business, Sidwell announced that he wanted Sonny’s piers and full cooperation.
When Sonny suggested it would look suspicious if he sold the piers after their fight over Measure C, Sidwell responded that he’d upped his offer substantially after losing the vote, making it appear as a real estate transaction between two businessmen in which Sonny benefited handsomely. Sonny doubted people would buy that explanation, but Sidwell laughed that everyone had a price, and nobody would know what really happened. Next, Sonny wanted to know what else Sidwell wanted besides the piers, and the other man said that was all for now. However, Sidwell added, if anything happened to him or Marco, the photos and the gun used to kill Dalton would be delivered to the police. “Oh, and the gun, by the way, is covered in Laura’s DNA,” Sidwell casually remarked.

Appalled, Sonny argued that Laura was a good person who didn’t deserve Sidwell setting her up to get leverage over him. With a smirk, Sidwell gloated that it was a happy accident, and he now had the mayor and the local crime lord in his pocket. Sonny proclaimed nothing was stopping him from leaving the country, since Laura could handle the cops on her own. Replying that he knew Sonny would do anything to protect the mayor, Sidwell informed his rival that Sonny now had to protect him and Marco as well: If either of them were to get hurt, Sonny and Laura would have to answer for Dalton’s murder. His business with Corinthos finished for the moment, Sidwell crowed, “Thanks so much for seeing me, Sonny. I think it was a really great idea, meeting outside of business hours. Don’t you?”
After Sidwell left, Sonny picked up the photo just as Laura called him to let him know about her visit from Sidwell. Informing her that Sidwell had been to see him as well, Sonny vowed to Laura that they’d figure out how to handle the mess they were in.
