General Hospital Recap: Nina Eyes Drowning Drew, Peter Stokes Anna’s Vengeance

Comments

The Thursday, July 23, episode of General Hospital saw Nina (Cynthia Watros) get a stroke of deadly inspiration regarding Drew (Cameron Mathison) as Michael (Rory Gibson) seized a new business opportunity, Cody (Josh Kelly) shared a poignant goodbye with James (Easton Winn), Charlotte’s (Bluesy Burke) crush on Gio (Giovanni Mazza) deepened, Anna (Finola Hughes) made an offer to Chase (Josh Swickard), and more. Here’s everything that happened.

Sink or Swim

Alexis, Michael, Nina, Willow, and Drew supported Scout as she did her first freshwater swim practice across the lake. Nina and Willow ducked inside the boathouse and fretted about how Drew was improving daily.

With time running out for Jack to get the evidence from his black box to neutralize Drew, Nina suggested Willow seriously consider that they take the kids and flee, but Willow was determined to find help elsewhere if Brennan didn’t come through. When Nina prattled on about how they could rely on Jack, a repulsed Willow correctly deduced that her mother had slept with Brennan and doubted they should trust him.

As Alexis and Michael chatted on the dock, she said she hoped that for Scout’s sake, Drew would be a better person if he recovered, but Michael doubted that would happen. Overhearing their conversation, Drew clenched his fingers into a fist.

Rocco arrived just as Scout got out of the lake, having successfully beaten her desired time. When he apologized for missing her swim, she teased that she’d be swimming every day if he wanted to come time her. To show her father her progress, an excited Scout positioned Drew’s wheelchair towards the lake. Alexis warned Scout not to put her dad’s chair too close to the water, and the comment seemed to spark an idea in Nina….

Risky Business

At the Deception office, Tracy, Lucy, and Brook Lynn were reeling after Maxie’s sudden departure from the company. When Michael arrived and announced that he now owned Maxie’s shares, Lucy felt betrayed that Maxie didn’t offer her the chance to buy them. Tracy gloated that she, Brook Lynn, and Michael could form a cohesive Quartermaine voting bloc, but Michael insisted that his decisions would be made not for family allegiance but for the good of the company.

Michael laid out a vision for the company, and Brook Lynn cast a deciding vote in favor of it, overruling a ticked-off Lucy and Tracy.

Hey Jealousy

Sonny stopped by the Metro Court pool to speak with Rocco, who was working as a pool attendant. He let his grandson know that he was aware of what had happened with Cullum and vowed his support if Rocco ever needed someone to vent to.

Meanwhile, Gio told Emma that he’d promised Carly and Olivia he wouldn’t quit his lifeguard gig to record his album until they found a replacement. Charlotte arrived and gushed about how heroic Gio had been when he’d recently rescued a little boy from drowning. Emma later joked to Gio about Charlotte’s hero worship of him.

Across the pool, Charlotte attempted to talk to Rocco, but he was still mad at her for standing by when Danny turned him in to the WSB and they began bickering again. Things between the siblings grew more strained as they bickered over Valentin. Charlotte defended Danny, Rocco retorted with a rude comment about Valentin, and Charlotte hit back with how far their mom and Dante had gone to protect Rocco lately. Their fight eventually ended when Rocco stalked away after blurting out that he wouldn’t take the fall next time she and Danny got in trouble.

Later, Charlotte brushed it off when Gio asked if all was okay with Rocco. Hugging Gio, Emma cheered that her boyfriend had signed with a record label, and Charlotte forced a fake smile as the couple kissed, her jealousy of Emma and crush on Gio growing more apparent.

Been There

Laura gave Dante the heads-up that Anna knew the evidence in Cullum’s shooting was missing and was determined to find it. After confessing that he’d taken advantage of his post as commissioner and destroyed the evidence to protect Rocco, Dante said he’d handle it with Anna.

Later, Sonny visited Laura to discuss their grandson now that he knew Rocco was responsible for shooting Cullum. Laura was glad that Ric believed Rocco was in the clear, but worried that Anna was a loose end since the commissioner was searching for the evidence. They acknowledged that Rocco was struggling with the trauma caused by nearly killing someone. Since Laura had accidentally killed her lover, David Hamilton, when she was 16, and Sonny had done unspeakable things himself when he was Rocco’s age, they realized that they were uniquely prepared to help their grandson navigate the future.

Office Management

Now back in the commissioner’s seat, Anna received the rundown from Chase about his demotion from detective and chastised him for undermining the PCPD’s case against Willow. Anna proposed that Chase look into any investigations involving Cassius and Britt’s conspiracy with Ross Cullum — including the missing evidence from the PCPD’s case on Cullum’s shooting — in order to get his detective shield back. Chase promised he’d get the commissioner what she needed.

Dante then met with Anna and took responsibility for the missing evidence on Cullum’s case. Rather than pressing Dante for details, Anna trusted his reasoning and stated that it might be best to leave the case closed. Then, she asked Dante to be warmer with Chase, since they might be partners again soon if she had her way, and he agreed.

After Dante left, Peter emerged behind Anna’s desk. When she theorized that Dante must be protecting his son in Cullum’s shooting, Peter encouraged Anna to refocus her attention back to Cassius and Britt, who were responsible for the hell she’d gone through. “They’re just like me, Anna,” Peter taunted. “And we are all just like our father.”

See Ya Real Soon

At Bobbie’s, Cody informed Molly that Maxie, James, and Georgie were relocating to Australia with Spinelli, who’d accepted a job there. When James entered with Mac and Felicia, he ignored Cody, still blaming him for breaking the news about Cassius. While Molly had James occupied at the counter, Mac and Felicia urged Cody to try to fix things between him and James before the move.

James warmed up once Cody showed him a video of a colt just born at the stables (who Cody wanted to name “West” after James) and returned the cowboy hat James had left behind in his anger. As Molly, Mac, and Felicia looked on with bittersweet smiles, James and Cody promised to keep in touch with weekly video calls and shared a touching cowboy goodbye in the form of, “See ya around, partner.”
