General Hospital Recap: Jason And Sonny Strategize, Lucas Catches Britt With Marco and More

Comments

There were some intense conversations taking place around Port Charles on the January 26 episode of General Hospital. As Jason (Steve Burton) shared his concerns about Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) with Sonny (Maurice Benard), she and Marco (Adrian Anchondo) got caught arguing about their secret project by Lucas (Van Hansis); Ava (Maura West) and Jenz (Carlo Rota) discussed their mutual appreciation; Curtis (Donnell Turner) and Jordan (Tanisha Harper) talked about their future; Josslyn (Eden McCoy) turned to Brick (Stephen A. Smith) for help after overhearing a confession from Jack (Chris McKenna) about Carly (Laura Wright) and more! Here’s everything that happened.

Well Vented

At the Metro Court, Carly sat down opposite Sidwell, hoping to convince him to sabotage Lucas and Marco’s relationship, but he refused to interfere since Lucas made Marco so happy. Instead, he offered to help Carly fix her relationship with Lucas, suggesting she start by making nice with Marco, and he even invited her to Wyndemere.

By the bar, Jordan bumped into Brick while he was waiting for Carly. He invited her out to dinner sometime, but before she could answer, Curtis arrived, and she made introductions. After Brick left them, Curtis questioned Jordan about her relationship with the man, so she explained that Brick was an associate of Michael’s and Sonny’s who specialized in intelligence, and she’d worked with him several times herself. Changing the subject, Curtis asked if she’d been to the hospital to see Drew yet, but neither of them had. Jordan said she felt bad about Drew’s stroke; Curtis replied that he wasn’t sure how he felt, since the congressman being immobilized meant he could no longer come after his family. Jordan then asked if there was any update on Portia. Curtis sighed that he was in a holding pattern on the paternity test until Portia was ready to take it, but he felt like he had a right to know if she was carrying his child. When Jordan responded that either way, it would affect his future, Curtis clarified that it would impact their future, then reached for her hand across the table.

As Carly caught up with Brick at the table in the hallway, he asked her what she’d been speaking with Sidwell about. Explaining that her brother was dating Sidwell’s son, Carly feared that Lucas was in danger by living at Wyndemere with Sidwell, and it had led to a huge argument between them. When Brick questioned how her fears connected to her conversation with Sidwell, Carly confided that she’d thought about asking Sidwell for help breaking up Lucas and Marco. Replying that her heart was in the right place, Brick warned Carly that Sidwell was not an ally to have since he never did anything that wasn’t in his self-interest.

Give ‘Em Something To Talk About

Ava dropped off Avery’s dance recital costume at Sonny’s house, and he brought up Sidwell. He tried to warn her that Sidwell was dangerous, but Ava declared that her business with Jenz was none of Sonny’s concern and that she could handle herself.

Joining Sidwell at his table at the Metro Court, Ava vented that she was late because Sonny had wanted to chat when she dropped something off at his house for their daughter. Noticing how urgently Ava ordered a martini from the server, Sidwell commented that her conversation with Sonny must have been a lot, and she revealed that he’d been what they were speaking about. Ava warned Jenz to watch his back around Sonny, and he apologized for Sonny taking out his frustrations with him on her. Hoping their friendship could continue, Jenz said he understood if she needed to step back for Avery’s sake, but Ava refused to give Sonny that satisfaction. Although she valued him as a client, Ava understood if he wanted to work with another gallery. Complimenting her for being charming, shrewd, and beautiful, Jenz said that he appreciated that she didn’t scare easily, considering the rumors floating around about him. When Ava responded that there were rumors about her, too, Jenz assured her that he didn’t care what other people thought and formed his own opinions. Then, when Ava worried that Carly was skulking around and had reported their meeting back to Sonny, Jenz invited her back to Wyndemere. “I think that’s a fabulous idea,” she raved with a flirtatious smile. “And it’ll give Sonny something to really be angry about.”

While they waited for the launch, Ava told Jenz that as much as she liked the idea of Carly reporting back to Sonny that they’d left the Metro Court together, she didn’t want to be the cause of unnecessary friction between him and Sonny. Assuring her not to worry, Jenz said he had a proven record of handling Sonny Corinthos.

Public Spectacle

The day after Britt dumped Jason, he tracked her down at G.H. to talk. Wrangling Lucas into their conversation as a witness in case she needed to file a restraining order, Britt denounced Jason as being bad for her and insisted she no longer needed saving. Yelling that if he ever respected her, he’d leave her alone, Britt stalked off, leaving Jason to apologize to a stunned Lucas for getting dragged into their mess. Around the corner, Britt broke down in tears over being forced to break things off with Jason.

Following his very public breakup with Britt, Jason headed to Sonny’s house. Sonny shared how he’d planted some useful seeds against Sidwell while Ava was there earlier, and since both Avery’s mom and Lucy Coe were fighting over the man, they had an advantage with Sidwell being distracted. Jason wondered how long Sonny was going to let Sidwell continue to blackmail him, and Sonny groused that he’d take the man out right now if Laura weren’t also involved. Then, Sonny asked if Britt had said anything about Sidwell, so Jason explained that Britt had ended things with him because of his friendship with Carly.

Filling Sonny in on what happened at Bobbie’s, Jason noted that Carly felt Britt staged the fight, and he’d figured it was for his benefit. Ever since he’d found her at the Five Poppies, Jason noted, Britt had been pushing him away any time she got close to confiding in him. Suspecting that she’d faked the fight to end things between them, Jason added that he’d gone to G.H. to see how she reacted, and she’d threatened him with a restraining order. The men agreed that something had spooked Britt and discussed what they knew about her part in Sidwell’s project. Needing answers, Jason decided to put her under surveillance, but Sonny warned him to be careful since Sidwell probably had eyes on Jason as well.

Target Practice

While his dad was on the mainland, Marco called WSB Director Cullum to Spoon Island to discuss Sonny Corinthos. Marco explained that his father had leverage over Sonny and been using it to achieve his own goals, but he felt it was too risky to leave the mobster. When Cullum asked if it had anything to do with avenging his mother’s death, Marco acknowledged that he’d enjoy seeing Sonny suffer for what he’d done to Natalia, but the threat to their business was greater.

Next, Marco shared that even though Sonny had sold Jenz his piers, the crime boss had a hold on the port. Marco theorized that Sonny was using Sidwell’s complacency to plot his retaliation, and it was risky to have their project directly across the harbor from the one man who could shut it down. Proclaiming that blackmail wouldn’t be enough to neutralize Corinthos, Marco proposed that Cullum take Sonny out of the equation.

Spy Games

On Pier 55, Josslyn told Jack that she’d gone to Wyndemere with Lucas, and while her boss was angry that she’d disobeyed his orders, Joss insisted that she’d been fine because Pascal was out of the county. Then she recounted Marco’s unusual reaction to Lucas wanting to explore the catacombs and suggested that whatever Sidwell was hiding on Spoon Island was down in the tunnels. As they rehashed Faison’s history in Port Charles at Wyndemere, Jack agreed that the criminal’s associates might have been conducting his final project on the island. Since Spoon Island was known for losing power during storms, and a blizzard was about to hit Port Charles, Joss figured she’d have the perfect opportunity to search the castle if all its inhabitants returned to the mainland to wait out the storm.

Insisting that it was too risky for Joss to search the island herself, Jack wanted to wait until he could assemble a team, prompting Joss to shout that the real reason was that he didn’t want to risk his girlfriend’s daughter. Then, Jack’s phone pinged with a text from Cullum, who was on his way, so he ordered Josslyn to take off before the director got there and stay away from Spoon Island.

Josslyn eavesdropped as Jack met with Cullum, who demanded to know how Sonny factored into Sidwell’s operation in Port Charles. Cullum thought it was odd that Corinthos, who controlled the Eastern seaport, willingly gave up his transport hub to Sidwell. Insisting that there was nothing but bad blood between the men, Jack noted that Sonny blamed Sidwell for the fire at Charlie’s Pub, and there hadn’t been anything on the WSB radar since. Cullum thought that alone was suspicious, but Jack replied that the piers purchase seemed legit and didn’t think Sonny knew anything about Sidwell’s operations. Josslyn took note as Cullum accused Jack of avoiding investigating Corinthos because of his involvement with the man’s ex-wife, and Jack claimed that the only reason he was dating Carly was to get information on Sonny.

Caught In The Act

After he parted ways with Cullum, Marco called Britt and summoned her to Wyndemere. When she said she had patients she couldn’t leave, he threatened to tell the WSB director that she was causing problems, so she reluctantly agreed to head to the island. Going back to the hub, she asked Lucas to check on a patient for her because she needed to leave early. In a moment of compassion for the woman he generally detested, Lucas asked Britt if she was okay after her fight with Jason. Pretending she was fine, Britt implied that she knew it was going to end badly, so she couldn’t let Jason drag her down, and Lucas agreed that sometimes you had to take care of yourself, no matter how much you loved the other person.

Once Britt arrived at Wyndemere, Marco showed her the lab, but when they returned upstairs to the living room, Britt complained that it lacked the safety precautions she needed to finish the cold fusion project. When Marco accused her of stalling, Britt shouted that she just wanted to get her work over with. Just then, Lucas arrived home and was surprised to see Britt with Marco. “Okay, so clue me in, here. You want what over with what?” Lucas asked.

Phone A Friend

Back at the Metro Court, Carly sighed to Brick that she’s felt a distance with her family lately, that she couldn’t be truthful with the people she loved and vice versa. She apologized for venting, but Brick assured her that they were friends and she could talk to him anytime. He also offered his help if she ever needed anything, but Carly declared that she knew what she had to do and had every intention of following through — and it had nothing to do with Jenz Sidwell. When Jack approached the pair, the men made small talk before Brick said his good-byes. Once alone with Carly, Jack jokingly asked if he should be worried about Brick, and she laughed that flirting was what they did. When Jack replied that he was glad he didn’t have to compete for her affection since having Carly by his side meant a lot to him, she flashed back to the conversation she’d overheard between Jack and Britt about her work with Sidwell. Noticing Carly’s far-off gaze, Jack asked what she was thinking about. Covering, she professed that she was glad to be the one uncomplicated part of his life.

On his way out of the Metro Court, Brick got an unexpected phone call. He later visited Josslyn at her apartment, and when she thanked him for getting there so fast, Brick replied that he’d help her out with whatever she needed.

How do you think Britt and Marco will explain away their clandestine meeting to Lucas? Was Jack putting on a front about his reasons for dating Carly or telling Cullum the truth?
