General Hospital Confirms Plans For Special Episode Honoring Anthony Geary And Luke In February
When daytime legend Anthony Geary passed away at the age of 78 on December 14, 2025, fans knew that General Hospital would pay tribute to the beloved actor and his iconic character, Luke Spencer. After airing an encore presentation of Geary’s final episode of the soap on New Year’s Day, the show produced a special montage centered around Geary featuring co-stars like his supercouple partner Genie Francis (Laura), which will air at the end of the January 23 episode. And now an entire hour-long episode honoring the Daytime Emmy-winning star and his storied alter ego is planned for February.
Memory Lane
Fans have already been able to revisit the July 27, 2015, episode of GH where Luke said a final farewell to Port Charles, marking Geary’s final episode as he retired from acting and moved to Amsterdam to live with his future husband, Claudio Gama. Then, ABC executive Nathan Varni announced that a “loving montage” of moments from Geary’s time on the show would be broadcast, including memories from co-stars like Genie Francis (Laura). Originally scheduled for January 22, a national preemption bumped it to air at the end of the January 23 episode.
Now, TV Insider is reporting that a standalone episode paying tribute to Geary and Luke Spencer will air on Friday, February 20. This special hour will feature memorable moments from the actor’s decades on the soap, alongside memories shared by the actors he worked with over the years.
“For decades, Tony Geary brought daytime television’s ultimate antihero, Luke Spencer, to life,” Executive Producer Frank Valentini told the outlet. “We wanted to honor Tony and his extraordinary legacy in the most meaningful way possible, and this special episode of General Hospital gives viewers the opportunity to revisit some of Luke’s most iconic adventures and unforgettable moments, along with a few rarely seen ones. And who better to share those memories than the people of Port Charles who knew and loved him?”
Geary’s initial run on GH was from 1978-83 with a brief return in 1984. He then returned in 1991 as another character, Luke’s look-alike cousin, Bill Eckert, before returning to the role of Luke when Bill was killed off in 1993. Before his 2015 retirement, Geary earned a record-setting eight Daytime Emmy Awards in the Lead Actor category for his work on the soap.
