General Hospital Recap: Drew Spies Willow in a Close Moment with Chase as Ava and Sonny Face Off
The Wednesday, September 23, episode of General Hospital introduced a new character — Monet Mitchell (Blythe Howard) — in Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) pending custody battle while Ava (Maura West) prepared to ramp up her own custody fight against Sonny (Maurice Benard). Elsewhere, Drew (Cameron Mathison) saw something he could use to his advantage, Curtis (Donnell Turner) and Portia (Brook Kerr) came to an understanding, Trina (Tabyana Ali) made a decision regarding her music career, and more. Here’s everything that happened.
Legal Briefs
Chase met with Monet Mitchell, a former Los Angeles attorney now working at Miller & Davis, whom Alexis had recommended. Chase told Monet he wasn’t sure he was ready to move forward with a divorce yet because he still loved his wife, but he wanted to know the best strategy to make sure he didn’t lose his daughter.
Monet said a legal separation was the top priority in protecting Chase’s parental rights and insulating him against accusations of infidelity. Chase, however, was adamant that dating was the furthest thing from his mind. Monet advised Chase to move back into the house as soon as possible, because it would look better to the court than him living at the hotel, and said she would handle things with Tracy. Chase agreed to move forward with Monet representing him.
Unwanted Visitor
Brook Lynn got upset when Tracy implied that Chase moving out was for the best and vowed to put her family back together through honesty and love, not manipulation. Tracy pretended to be supportive when Brook Lynn revealed she’d talked Chase out of filing for a legal separation for the time being but promised that she’d get her granddaughter the best representation if necessary.
Their conversation ended when Brook Lynn left to find Trina and Gio for Simon, who was having trouble getting ahold of the duo. Over a game of backgammon, Tracy checked in with Yuri to see if he’d noticed Chase spending time with Willow, hoping that Chase’s eventual infidelity would ensure Brook Lynn got custody of Phoebe. Later, Tracy prepared for battle when Monet arrived at the mansion and declared Chase would be moving back in and seeking custody of his daughter.
Strategy Session
Sonny and Ric went over their strategy to get Piers 55 and 56 in the upcoming auction. Sonny was sure Drew would be the biggest competitor and take any advantage to sabotage him. Ric pointed out that now that Sonny was out of the mob, he no longer had access to the assets once at his disposal. Sonny replied that he wouldn’t have resorted to his old methods regardless, since he’d promised Laura he wouldn’t go after Drew.
The doorbell then rang, and Sonny’s associate, Vito, entered. After a private discussion with Vito, Sonny returned to the living room and told Ric that he’d sent Vito to deliver a message to a prisoner at Pentonville. When a worried Ric pressed for details, Sonny explained that he kept an eye on the families of several prisoners in exchange for them keeping tabs on Sidwell. Ric reminded his brother that Drew was a bigger problem and needed Sonny’s full attention.
Guilt by Association
Ava met with Willow at the Metro Court Gardens and got antsy when Willow declared that finding Jack Brennan was the key to getting Nina out of Steinmauer. Willow shared her theory that someone had framed her mother by planting Jack’s wallet in her car, so Ava suggested Carly had done something to Brennan and steered the WSB toward Nina, getting rid of two birds with one stone.
Willow appreciated Ava’s insight and vowed to fight for her mother. “Nina may not have many people in her corner, but she’s got the two of us,” Ava declared, stuffing down her guilt.
Later, Ava received a concerning phone call from Avery’s school and stormed over to Sonny’s house. Furious that Sonny was taking Avery out of school without her knowledge, Ava refused to listen to his explanation and fumed that this was the last time Sonny would go behind her back when it came to Avery.
United Front
Portia surprised Curtis with a visit from Desmond. He was touched that she’d arranged the special visit with Warden Alvarez, and she assured Curtis that she would never cut him out of their son’s life. Their chat turned to Brook Lynn’s confession, and Curtis said he regretted the harm he’d caused Isaiah, but there needed to be no confusion that he was Desmond’s father. Portia replied that wanting them all to be a family once Curtis was released was the very reason she brought Des to see him.
Having reached a new understanding with her ex, Portia left with the baby. But before Curtis could leave the visitation room, another inmate — who’d just wrapped up a conversation with Vito at another table — approached and warned him to find a reason not to be in his cell after lunch.
On With The Show
Trina told Gio she couldn’t go forward with pursuing a music career that Brook Lynn set up out of guilt. Gio replied that their friendship meant more to him than a potential musical partnership, so he was out, too. Brook Lynn showed up at the apartment, and Gio told his mother that they were exercising the out clause in their contract.
Brook Lynn pleaded with Trina not to give up the opportunity, saying she didn’t want music to be one more thing she’d taken away from Trina. Believing that Brook Lynn was sincere, Trina decided she and Gio would keep working with Simon — as long as Brook Lynn was not involved. A heartbroken Brook Lynn agreed and exited.
Once they were alone, Trina thanked Gio for backing her up. He confided that things were too complicated for Brook Lynn to be his mother and his manager, and it was more important to fix the “mom” part. Gio and Trina called Simon to let him know they were ready to discuss their next gig.
Close Comfort
At Aurora Wellness, Drew confronted Kai about knowing that Willow was the one who’d shot him. Drew noted that at first, he couldn’t figure out why Kai never came forward but eventually suspected it was because Kai and Trina had taken the incriminating evidence against Portia from his safe.
Drew went on to praise Kai for his rare integrity — sticking around to protect him even though Kai despised him — and offered his former intern a job at Aurora. Kai declined, but Drew left the offer open-ended.
Elsewhere in the gym, Chase was lifting weights when Willow approached him, and he sighed that he’d needed to clear his head after meeting with a divorce attorney. As Willow grabbed Chase’s hand in a show of support, Drew turned the corner and clocked the close moment between his ex-wife and her ex-husband.
