General Hospital Comings & Goings: Kearran Giovanni Debuts as Anna’s New Therapist
General Hospital is introducing a new mental health professional to its ranks. On Thursday, September 10, One Life to Live alum Kearran Giovanni (ex-Vivian Wright) made her debut as Dr. Nichols, Anna Devane’s (Finola Hughes) therapist, who will seek to help the traumatized heroine recover from her dangerous break from reality.
Paging Dr. Nichols
Although Anna underwent months of treatment at a clinic in France, she seemingly spent more time fooling her doctors about the progress she was making than actually making that progress. She was pronounced well enough to return to Port Charles, but her hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) followed her home and nearly convinced her to kill Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud). Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) managed to talk her down, and Anna fired her gun at the apparition of Peter, breaking his control over her.
Now, as she attempts to regain control of her life, Anna is ready to give therapy an honest shot. But with the show’s go-to psychiatrist, Dr. Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom), unavailable — he’s teaching in Ireland — it is Dr. Nichols who will attempt to steer Anna back to mental health. In her introductory episode, Dr. Nichols was presented as an established staff member at General Hospital, just one whom viewers had yet to meet.
Actress Kearran Giovanni first entered the world of soaps in 2009, when she began playing the recurring role of Dr. Vivian Wright on OLTL. There, she worked under Executive Producer Frank Valentini, who is now GH’s EP.

Giovanni appeared on OLTL through 2012 as a love interest for Shaun Evans (Sean Ringgold) and the ob/gyn who delivered Drew Buchanan II, the son of Destiny Evans (Shenell Edmonds) and Matthew Buchanan (Eddie Alderson), in the show’s final episode.
The actress has also carved out an impressive career in primetime television. From 2012-18, she starred as Detective Amy Sykes on the TNT procedural drama Major Crimes, where she worked alongside GH star Robert Gossett (Marshall Ashford), who played Commander Russell Taylor. In 2017, she appeared in two episodes of ABC’s Designated Survivor, starring Keifer Sutherland; from 2017-19, she starred as Giselle Cutter on the CW superhero series Black Lightning; and from 2019-20, she played Andrea Braydon on Fox’s The Resident. She then played the recurring role of Kelly James on the CW crime drama Walker from 2022-24.
