Did General Hospital’s Steve Burton Just Reveal a Character Has Been Recast?
Steve Burton (Jason) revealed that a new actor will soon be appearing on General Hospital — and his comments hint that while the cast member is new, the role he’ll be playing is one rooted in Port Charles history.
Steve Burton Hints at Return of Established Character
During an episode of the That’s Awesome podcast that Burton co-hosts with Bradford Anderson (Spinelli), the topic turned to the importance of history in daytime dramas, including how it can be challenging for recasts when the actor is unaware of their character’s history on the show and their relationship to other characters on the canvas. “It’s important,” Burton declared. “Knowing the history is important.”
The actor revealed that he had recently worked with a new male member of the cast. “So, there’s a guy on the show right now who came on the show, and you guys will see him,” he said, adding that he wasn’t sure if the actor had aired yet. “I had some scenes with him — I can’t say what it is yet — but I said, ‘Do you know exactly what’s happening?’”
Burton explained that the scene he was filming with this new co-star was rooted in the history of Port Charles, and that those past events informed what he called the other actor’s “decision-making in the scene.”
So, Burton asked the actor, “‘Do you know exactly what’s happening?’” The other actor admitted to Burton, “‘I don’t really know what’s really happened, but I do [create] the backstory myself.’”
Burton then offered his expertise as a longtime GH vet.
“He’s been an actor for a long, long time,” Burton said of his new co-star. “He’s been on some prime-time shows. He’s done this a long time. So I said, ‘Do you mind if I just tell you kind of, you know, what this is, who this is, why they’re doing it, and what the involvement for me is?’ And he goes, ‘No, I would love [for you] to.’”
Burton pointed out how useful understanding even the basics of the backstory between characters can be, so the actor can more easily grasp “‘oh, that’s why I’m saying this, and now… the interpretation needs to be this, or my intention needs to be this in the scene.’”
Burton did not reveal any specifics about the way Jason interacts with the character this new actor is playing, but in the comment section of a clip from the podcast circulating on X (formerly Twitter), two candidates received repeated mention. The first is Josslyn Jacks’ (Eden McCoy) father, Jax, last played by Ingo Rademacher in 2021, who has been name-dropped quite a bit in recent weeks after the arrival of an executive from his company, Jasper Jacks Enterprises (JJE), the secret-keeping Hudson Parker (Troy Lennon Appel) and Josslyn’s new WSB mission to assume the CEO position at JJE. The second is Jerry Jacks, last played by Sebastian Roché in 2015, whose criminal past might make his current activities of great interest to the WSB.
