General Hospital: Maurice Benard Teases the Return of a Fan Favorite
General Hospital star Maurice Benard (Sonny) posted a video where he praised the upcoming storyline that the writers have crafted for his character — and in the process, teased that fans will soon be treated to an appearance by a co-star who has been absent for months.
A Furry Favorite Returns to GH
In a video posted to his official social media accounts on August 27, Benard shared his excitement about the drama coming up on GH. “The last couple of weeks have been just… intense, deep, real,” he said, before praising Executive Producer Frank Valentini, Co-Head Writer Elizabeth Korte, and the show’s writing team.
“As an actor, you’re only as good as your story and your writing,” Benard explained. “And that’s what’s been happening lately. And there’s such a difference.”
He then named several of the actors he’ll be working with in the upcoming drama, including Steve Burton (Jason), Laura Wright (Carly), Maura West (Ava), Rick Hearst (Ric), Nazneen Contractor (Justine), and Giovanni Mazza (Gio).
But there was one more co-star Benard wanted to mention. After pausing for a moment, he added with a chuckle, “Fizz.”
That’s right: Sonny’s adorable Pomeranian will be back on screen soon. Fizz made his GH debut in December 2025 after being among the animals rescued by Emma (Braedyn Bruner) and Gio from Professor Dalton’s (Daniel Goddard) unethical testing lab. Sonny subsequently rescued the pup in February 2026.
Fizz has made only a handful of appearances since then, making Benard’s unexpected mention a welcome tease for fans who have been missing the four-legged member of Sonny’s family.
Benard wrapped up his message by reiterating how much he’s been enjoying the show’s recent material. “This has been a good couple of weeks,” he said, adding with a laugh that he hadn’t been paid to make the video and that his praise was “from the heart.”
