Days of Our Lives: Deidre Hall, Christie Clark, Alison Sweeney & More Stars Pay Tribute to Patrick Muldoon

Comments

The soap world was heartbroken when news broke that Days of Our Lives alum Patrick Muldoon, who originated the role of Austin Reed on the soap, had died at the age of 57 on April 19. As word of his passing spread across social media, his former castmates and friends shared heartfelt words in tribute to the actor.

Outpouring of Love

On its official Instagram, the show posted a message honoring Muldoon. “The Days of Our Lives family is saddened by the news of Patrick’s untimely passing,” it read. “As the original ‘Austin Reed,’ he left an indelible mark in Salem both personally and professionally. Our thoughts are with his loved ones, and he will be missed by all of us.”

Muldoon’s Austin became a supercouple in the early 1990s when he was paired with Christie Clark as Carrie Brady. The DAYS alum also took to Instagram to share a heartfelt tribute to the co-star she called “my lovely, mischievous and much-missed beautiful friend.” Wrote Clark, “This gorgeous Irish man was just as beautiful inside as outside,” Clark wrote. “P Muldoon made anyone that met him fall in love with him. Thank you for the hard belling laughing, nostril flaring uproarious good times I had with you. They’re imprinted on my heart and soul. My Irish friend, Jim Morrison/Marlon Brando reincarnated lover of life and music. Sending massive hugs to his most prized people, [mother] Deanna, [father] Patrick Sr., [sister] Shana, [brother-in-law] Amhet, [niece] Halo, [nephew] Arrow and of course, his love, Miriam [Rothbart]. Thinking of you.”

Carrie’s sister, Sami, played dirty to try to win Austin away from Carrie, drugging him and convincing him that he had fathered her baby boy, Will. Alison Sweeney (ex-Sami) told former Soap Opera Digest Editorial Director Stephanie Sloane in the newest edition of the SoapSteph’s Daytime Dish newsletter, “I am truly devastated to read about Patrick’s passing. So many stories popped immediately into my mind of my first experience at DAYS and how lucky and grateful I am to have had the chance to work with him. He was always looking after me, helping me adjust to the crazy things my character was up to in our scenes together.”

Deidre Hall (Marlena) wrote on Instagram, “The sweetest man. A terrible loss.” In her Instagram Stories, Lisa Rinna, who played Muldoon’s TV sister, Billie Reed, and also dated the actor for a time prior to her marriage to Harry Hamlin, shared a DAYS publicity photo of the two of them (seen below) with a simple broken-heart emoji underneath.

Kate Mansi, who now plays Kristina on General Hospital, worked closely with Muldoon while playing Abigail on DAYS, who plotted to break up Austin’s marriage to Carrie so she could have him for herself. “My husband woke me up from London very early this morning when he saw the news [of Muldoon’s passing] so I didn’t wake up to it while scrolling,” she wrote on her Instagram stories. “I’m so stuck. As evidenced by how many people feel this way, Muldoon left an impact on everyone he knew.” She also shared that he “had a phrase he’d say when you reached a new portal in your life. He’d say: ‘You popped your consciousness!’” And finally, over a photo of the California coastline, she declared, “To the original Cali boy rocker, love you forever. No one LIVED and LOVED like you.”

Mike Manning, who played Charlie Dale on DAYS, worked with Muldoon on the streaming soap The Bay, where he and Jennifer Taylor played the parents of his character, Caleb. “Damn, not Patrick 🙁,” Manning shared on X/Twitter with a “family” photo from the set. “RIP buddy. Ugh too soon.” In an Instagram Story, Casey Moss (JJ) shared a photo of Muldoon and wrote, “Gonna miss you, bruv 🕊️ We’ll jam when I get up there. 🤘” In an Instagram post, Galen Gering (Rafe) expressed, “I keep waiting to wake up from this nightmare, but the reality is we’ve lost someone truly irreplaceable. Patrick was one of a kind — a gifted actor, an incredible singer and songwriter, absolutely hilarious, and one of the best friends you could ever ask for. The memories we made together, on set and off, are ones I’ll carry with me forever. Until we meet again, my friend. 🤍”

In the comments of the DAYS post, Eric Martsolf (Brady) shared, ‘The world will miss this man’s energy. I was a fan. RIP Pat.” Robert Scott Wilson (Alex) posted two praying hands emojis and a heart, and Cherie Jimenez (Gabi) remarked, “Got the honor of meeting him last year. 💔🙏 May his soul rest in paradise.” Nadia Bjorlin (ex-Chloe) wrote, “He was so beautiful, inside and out, just an amazing person. Rest in peace, sweet Patty.”
