General Hospital Recap: Britt Confesses, Lulu Pushes Nathan Away, Valentin Escapes, and More

Comments

The blizzard continued to blanket Port Charles on the January 30 episode of General Hospital, leading to some intense situations for the snowed-in residents. New couple Molly (Kristen Vaganos) and Cody (Josh Kelly) had their first fight over her manuscript, Lulu (Alexa Havins) and Nathan (Ryan Paevey) opened up about their feelings, Trina (Tabyana Ali) vented her frustrations to Portia (Brook Kerr), Rocco (Finn Carr) was hurt to find out Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) and Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) had lied to him, Jason (Steve Burton) convinced Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) to let him help her, Jack (Chris McKenna) nearly caught Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) at Carly’s (Laura Wright) house, and Josslyn (Eden McCoy) stumbled upon something odd while snowed in with “Matthew” the Wyndemere caretaker, a.k.a. Cullum (Andrew Hawkes). Read on to see how it all went down.

Bad Romance

After momentarily pulling away from kissing Nathan, Lulu went back for more, but then pushed him away, declaring that they weren’t thinking clearly because of the alcohol and being stranded in the storm. Hurt, Nathan professed that he’d wanted to kiss her for a while, since Lulu had helped him adapt to his new life, and the days that he saw her were less empty. When he begged her to say something, Lulu reluctantly admitted that she had feelings for him, too, but they couldn’t act on them because of Maxie.

Nathan reasoned that Maxie had moved on and created a life with Spinelli and the kids, and while he’d always love Maxie, he never wanted her to mourn him forever. He wanted to move on, too, and not live in the memory of what his life used to be. Although she understood his point, Lulu said Maxie would be crushed if she ever found out that they’d kissed, and they ultimately recognized that acting on whatever feelings they had would hurt Dante and their kids, as well. Later, when they went to the door to check the conditions outside, Nathan gazed longingly at Lulu, perhaps not as convinced as she was about leaving this alone.

The Ugly Truth

Britt confided that she was scared to tell Jason the whole truth because she was afraid of what the people she was working for might do to him. When Jason asked who Sidwell’s associates were, she shared that one was Ross Cullum, who had ordered her to end things with him, adding that the only reason she was alive was that he and Sidwell needed her to complete her father’s final project. Jason was stunned when Britt revealed that Cullum was a WSB agent, which was how Sidwell was always one step ahead. Britt explained that after Cullum twice met with Rocco under the pretense of asking about the break-in at Dalton’s lab and threatened to send him to Steinmauer if she didn’t cooperate, she didn’t know what else to do besides push everyone away.

Next, Britt shared how everything that had happened before she left was real, and she thought she was dying in her mother’s arms. But then she woke up at The Five Poppies to see Cullum, who explained that they’d faked her death. In exchange for her researching cold fusion, they provided medicine to arrest her Huntington’s disease. But by the time she realized their goals weren’t altruistic, it was too late for her to walk away, and her medicine was how they kept her in line. Jason wondered if she could get the medication elsewhere. Britt explained that her father had developed it for himself, but he had been too far gone by the time the drug was ready for trial. When Jason offered to recreate the formula, she declined because it was too risky and her bosses were lethal: Sidwell had murdered Henry Dalton right in front of her.

Jason begged Britt to let him help get her out, promising to keep her, Rocco, and Obrecht safe. She worried that they wouldn’t be able to pull it off, but eventually agreed on the condition that they keep their distance once they returned to town, because she didn’t want to put Jason in danger. Deciding to make the most out of the night if that was all that they had, Jason kissed Britt, and they headed for the bed.

Little Big Lies

After seeing Charlotte’s scarf and shoes by the fire at the main house, Rocco went to the carriage house, where he and Rocco often hang out, figuring he’d find Charlotte and Danny there. When they explained that they’d tried to get to Carly’s to see Valentin but had to take cover in the carriage house because the storm was so bad, Rocco’s feelings were hurt that they hadn’t told him about their plan. Apologizing for not looping him in, Charlotte told her brother that lying to their mom didn’t bother her the same way it did him, and she didn’t want him to keep a secret from Lulu. Forgiving them, Rocco asked that they tell each other everything from now on. As the three teens made more S’mores, Danny and Charlotte shared a smile, still not having told Rocco about their kiss.

Close Call

Carly offered to let Valentin sleep in her guest room rather than the attic, considering they were snowed in and she wasn’t expecting anyone to stop by. He thanked her for overcoming a lot of hostility to put him up, considering Lulu was her cousin, and she joked about also putting up with him. Clarifying that she wasn’t giving him a pass on all his misdeeds, Carly said she could separate Valentin the Man from Valentin the Father. Acknowledging that he wanted to be better for Charlotte, Valentin stated that if all went as planned, Carly’s daughter would be safe, and he’d be back with his. Just as he asked if it would bother her if Jack ended up at Steinmauer, the doorbell rang. Valentin scrambled upstairs as Carly saw Jack waiting on the porch.

Once inside, Jack said he’d braved the blizzard to check on Carly and Donna, hoping to be chivalrous and take care of them both. Covering up for the fib she’d told him earlier about needing to relieve the sitter, Carly said that she’d messed up the dates and her daughter was actually at Sonny’s. When Jack questioned why she had two glasses of liquor on the table, she spun another cover story and claimed Jason was going to stop by, but she texted him not to after the news reported how bad the roads were. Handing Jack the glass Valentin had been drinking from, Carly toasted to a cozy evening, and as they hugged, she exhaled a heavy sigh.

While they were making out on the couch, Jack’s phone began ringing. When Jack went into the other room to take the call, Carly heaved out another breath, then anxiously began pacing her foyer. After staring at herself in the mirror and steeling herself, she reentered the living room just as Jack ended his call. When he asked if everything was okay, she declared that things were “perfect,” and then they made love in front of the fire. Meanwhile, up in the attic, Valentin stared out the window with tears in his eyes.

Fact Vs. Fiction

Molly came downstairs as Cody was reading her manuscript. When she pointed out that she never said yes when he asked if he could read it, Cody countered that she didn’t say no, either, but had instead distracted him with sex. Hurt by all the similarities between him and her main character, “Casey,” a stupid guy who worked in the stables, Cody called her out for not being mad that he violated her privacy, but that now he knew what she really thought of him. When Molly huffed that no one was supposed to read her novel, Cody argued that he wanted to read it because he was proud of her and wanted to celebrate her accomplishment. Acknowledging that Cody had inspired parts of Casey, Molly pointed out that she had started the book back when things were dicey between them, and if he’d read more than a few chapters, he would have seen that Casey changed as he fell in love with the heroine, Maddie. But even as Molly tried to point out all of Casey’s good qualities, all Cody could see was that the character was a joke. “And apparently, so am I,” he lamented.

When Molly expressed surprise that Cody was taking this so hard, he sighed and revealed that her opinion of him mattered because he cared about her. The things she wrote about Casey were the worst things he thought of himself, and not only does she think them too, but she put them out in the world for other people to see. Insisting that wasn’t how she viewed him, Molly said writing had been her only escape during the painful time after she lost her baby and broke up with TJ, but that was all ruined now, knowing that he was hurt by what she’d written. Feeling that he’d always think Molly saw him as a clown, Cody needed space and told Molly to take the bed while he settled in on the floor by the horses for the rest of the night.

Airing of the Grievances

Because of the storm, Portia spent the night at Trina’s house. When she stubbed her toe on the step by the kitchen, they shared a laugh at the idea of Portia sticking her foot out the window in the snow since they didn’t have an icepack, and she jokingly apologized for interrupting Trina’s disdain of her. Clarifying that she wasn’t mad, but worn out and tired, Trina tried to retreat to her bedroom, but Portia begged her to stay and talk. Divulging that she didn’t think she’d ever be able to forgive Portia for what she’d done to their family, Trina stated that she couldn’t stand that the baby was coming into the world surrounded by lies, just like she had. Adding that she was still in a lot of pain for having been lied to her entire life, Trina said that she loved her mother, but didn’t know how they could have a relationship with the trust between them gone. Portia cried that she didn’t want Trina to let her feelings affect her relationship with her new brother or sister, although she knew Trina wouldn’t blame an innocent child for her mistakes. Later, after her mom went back to bed, Trina cried in the living room.

Checkmate

At Wyndemere, Josslyn and Cullum played chess to pass the time, and he commented that she wasn’t who she pretended to be: ditzy college girls didn’t beat him at chess. After Josslyn fed him a few more breadcrumbs about her background, like how she used to be pre-med before switching to environmental science, Cullum said she was an interesting girl and wondered what other secrets she was keeping.

While the WSB director resumed his “Matthew the caretaker” charade to check the house for storm damage, Joss snooped through his coat and found a box of cigarillos and a paperback copy of P.K. Sinclair’s The Crystalline Conspiracy (actually written by Faison). Opening the book to a random page, Josslyn read the name “Davnee,” and then, when she again looked at the book’s cover, she recognized the woman pictured. “Anna,” she whispered. When Cullum returned and caught her, Josslyn claimed she’d grabbed his jacket because she was cold again, and that’s when the book and cigarillos fell out. When she noted that the woman on the cover looked like the town’s old police commissioner, Cullum responded that he’d never heard of Anna Devane, so it must be a coincidence. Then, Josslyn asked if she could borrow the book and sat down by the fire to read it as Cullum stared at her from across the dark living room.
