General Hospital Recap: Jason Stuns Sonny, Ethan Leaves Town, Anna Sees Valentin Kissing Carly
Sonny (Maurice Benard) lost two employees on the Friday, July 31 episode of General Hospital when Ethan (Christian Howard) suddenly left town, and Jason (Steve Burton) told the mob boss he was quitting. Meanwhile, Ava (Maura West) felt scorned, Drew (Cameron Mathison) vowed to the Quartermaines, Anna (Finola Hughes) got an eyeful from Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) and Carly (Laura Wright), Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) accused Tristan (Dean Geyer) of being a spy, Ric (Rick Hearst) was jealous when he saw Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) with Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and more. Here’s how it all went down.
Parting Words
Ethan panicked when he spotted a man he recognized at the Metro Court Pool. He glanced over to Brook Lynn and Phoebe, then immediately took off, ditching Ava. After packing up his bags at Lulu’s house, Ethan told his sister that he’d gotten a lead on an incredible opportunity and was leaving Port Charles.
Lulu didn’t think it was wise for him to quit on Sonny, especially after he’d used Luke’s name to get the job. Ethan replied that it was more than a job — he was leaving to keep a promise. Lulu agreed to support her brother, and they said goodbye.

Ditched
Back at the pool, Drew sat down in the lounger next to Ava, who said he’d have to leave once her friend, Ethan Lovett, returned — a conversation the mysterious newcomer overheard. Drew questioned whether Ava had been involved in what Nina and Willow had done to him, but since she was unaware of the truth, the accusation went over her head. Instead, Ava raved about Willow taking care of him and was surprised when Drew announced they were divorcing.
Unsettled that she couldn’t find Ethan, Ava asked Brook Lynn if she knew where he’d gone. Brook Lynn didn’t know, but again thanked Ava for helping Alexis find Phoebe’s father, because she and Chase were signing the adoption papers the next day.

The mystery man was at the bar when an angry Ava, who realized she’d been ghosted, asked the bartender to tell Ethan Lovett he’d missed his chance if he returned. Then, pretending to be from a delivery company, the mystery man called Lulu looking for Ethan, and was irritated when she informed him that Ethan had left the country.
Splashy Entrance
On shift as a pool attendant, Danny grumbled to Brook Lynn that Drew wasn’t going to let him and Scout see each other anymore, but he was determined to get along with Scout’s father for her sake. Later, while bringing Drew a drink, Danny accidentally spilled it on him. Convinced he did it on purpose, Drew berated Danny for being irresponsible until Brook Lynn stepped in and yelled at Drew for being an awful person and causing a scene.

As they fought about the Quartermaine clan, Drew told Brook Lynn that Willow wanted Chase back. Brook Lynn was dismayed that Drew was going to let petty grievances ruin his second chance, and he barked that he demanded justice for what was taken from him. When she ordered him to stay away from her family, Drew sneered that the Qs would lose everything by the time he was done.
Nothing to Hide
Jason was alarmed to see Tristan with Britt at G.H. As he walked past Jason, Tristan offered him a curt nod. Jason told Britt that her new colleague had been his WSB escort back from Jakarta, and she was sure Tristan had been planted to spy on her. Jason urged her to keep the information to herself until they knew more. Then, Jason asked Britt out on a date, but she had to pass because of a softball game.

Later, Britt confronted Tristan, who insisted his presence had nothing to do with her. When she threatened to expose him to the G.H. board, Tristan retorted that he wasn’t an agent and the hospital already knew that he’d worked at a WSB medical facility.
Quitting Time
Ric informed Sonny that once Sidwell was sent to prison, his assets would be auctioned off, which meant that Sonny could buy back Piers 55 and 56. Wanting Jason’s help on regaining the piers, Sonny summoned him to the house and ordered him and Ric to find a way to work together. Jason begrudgingly said that wouldn’t be a problem, so he and Ric shook on putting the past behind them before Ric took off for Elizabeth’s softball game.

Once Ric took off for Liz’s softball game, Jason told Sonny that there would never be peace between him and Ric. He then stunned Sonny by declaring that he couldn’t work for him anymore.
Game Day
Ahead of the PCPD/G.H. softball game at the park, Lucas complained to Elizabeth about his struggles finding an apartment, and Liz proposed Lucas find a roommate. While Dante stepped aside to help Liz practice catching, Joe asked Lucas how long the commissioner and nurse had been together. Lucas clarified that Liz and Dante were just friends but acknowledged that maybe Joe noticed something the rest of them hadn’t, adding that Dante was better than Elizabeth’s current partner. Lucas and Joe then commiserated about the struggle in finding an apartment.

Meanwhile, Dante apologized to Liz for being intense about softball. Rocco was still having problems with Danny, so Dante was channeling his focus into the summer league rather than meddling in his son’s life. Liz advised him to give Rocco space and joked that she was all in if he needed someone to coach. Arriving at the park, Ric was jealous when he saw Dante and Liz together.
When equipment manager Britt finally arrived, Elizabeth chided her for being late, and Dante praised Liz for taking the game seriously.

Ghost Stories
Anna told her hallucination of Peter she couldn’t kill Britt. She wanted to go to Valentin for help, but Peter insisted that he couldn’t be trusted. Emma arrived home and questioned who her grandmother had been talking to, but Anna covered by claiming that she’d been dictating case files.
As they discussed Maxie’s family’s move to Australia after the Cassius debacle, Emma told her grandmother she never suspected that Cassius wasn’t Nathan. Emma added that she was disappointed that Anna hadn’t informed her that Josslyn was a WSB agent but understood why her grandmother had to keep the secret. Assuring Emma that her family always came first, Anna said she was putting the WSB behind her and would never leave her family again. Emma worried that the WSB wouldn’t leave Anna alone, but Anna cryptically stated that she was going to speak with someone who could help make sure of that.

Winning Streak
At the Metro Court Garden, Valentin and Carly celebrated him getting his assets back. When Valentin said he was going to keep his promise to Charlotte to get Wyndemere back, Carly joked that the house creeped her out and she wouldn’t stay there.
As the couple toasted Valentin besting Jack, Valentin mused that Jack had made it too easy and suspected that Nina was involved. He mused about what Nina and Jack have in common that would make them both interested in whatever was inside the black box. Later, Anna arrived at the restaurant and was shocked to see Valentin and Carly kissing!

How will Anna react to the discovery of Valentin’s new romance? Is this the last we’ve seen of Ethan? Will Joe and Lucas end up as roommates? Share your thoughts on the latest episode of GH and what you predict will happen next!
