Five Things That Happened On May 22 In Soap History

In 1981, Doug and Julie Williams (Bill Hayes and Susan Seaforth Hayes) remarried on Days of Our Lives. The couple's first union had taken place in 1976, but two years later, the marriage ended in divorce after Julie, who had been raped by Larry Atwood, pushed her husband away. Doug went on to tie the knot with Lee DuMonde in 1979, but he and Julie found their way back to each other and after he obtained a divorce, he and Julie went back to the altar. They celebrated their second wedding with a honeymoon in Japan.

In 2001, Rick Forrester (Justin Torkildsen) married Amber Moore (Adrienne Frantz) on Bold and Beautiful. (Also pictured: John McCook and Susan Flannery as Eric Forrester and Stephanie Forrester.) In 2003, Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) and Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) wed on General Hospital. There was some tension on the day of their elopement, as Liz had to field an angry intrusion by Ric's former lover, Faith Rosco, who trashed her bouquet. Nonetheless, Ric and Liz headed to a Justice of the Peace, whose wife provided Liz with new flowers. Liz and Ric recited personal vows, and Ric surprised his bride with both a wedding band and a diamond ring. They were then pronounced husband and wife. Meanwhile, Faith was back at Ric's, flying into a rage.

In 2014, Robert Scott Wilson debuted on Days of Our Lives as Ben Weston, assuming the role from Justin Gaston. The actor had previously appeared on the All My Children reboot as Pete Cortlandt. He shared with Soap Opera Digest, "It came at a time when I didn't expect it.... The timing of it really worked out. I was supposed to stay in L.A. to test for a different show on Fox, but the project fell through." The actor praised his new co-stars, saying, "Kate [Mansi, Abigail] has been such a great shoulder to lean on. She welcomed me with open arms. Between working with Kate and Chrishell [Stause, Jordan] I feel so lucky. It made the transition of starting on a new show so much easier."

In 2024 on General Hospital, Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) was heartbroken as he gently broke the news to his daughter, Violet, that her grandfather, Gregory Chase, had passed away the previous evening in his sleep. Violet wept as she told her father, "I want Grandpa to still be here."
