Liz and Lucky Met On General Hospital and Other Big Soap Moments From August 8

In 1994, General Hospital's Laura (Genie Francis) and Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) welcomed daughter Lesley Lu "Lulu" Spencer. Her entrance was a dramatic one, as Laura had been roughed up at home by two thugs hired to get her to back off of her efforts to block a toxic waste incinerator from being built on Charles Street, and she fell down the stairs. Luke discovered her and rushed her to the hospital, and Laura underwent an emergency C-section to safely bring her daughter into the world. As a baby, Lulu was played by twins, Amanda and Kerrianne Harrington. In 1995, the role was recast with another set of twins, Clare and Maribel Moses. That same year, twins Alysin and Kelli Griffith took over. From 2001-03, Stephanie Allen played Lulu. The character was rapidly aged in 2004, with Tessa Allen assuming the role. Julie Marie Berman replaced her in 2005 and stayed through 2013, at which point Emme Rylan was tapped to succeed her. Rylan last aired in 2020, and Lulu is currently played by Alexa Havins, who debuted in 2024.

In 1997, one of General Hospital’s most popular couples, Brenda Barrett (Vanessa Marcil) and Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), got engaged. The pair planned a September wedding, but Sonny became convinced that the only way to truly keep Brenda safe from his dangerous lifestyle was to disappear, so the nuptials never came to fruition — Sonny slipped out of town and left it to best man Jason to break the devastating news to his jilted bride. Brenda and Sonny eventually did become Mr. and Mrs., but not until 2011.

In 1997, future supercouple Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson) met for the first time on General Hospital. The momentous encounter took place outside of his family's diner, Kelly's. "What's your name?" purred Liz. "Lucky," he replied. "We'll see," she shot back with a smile. Liz and Lucky's love story went on to include two marriages and one shared biological child, Aiden, not to mention a short-lived reunion in 2025 that ended when Liz turned down his latest marriage proposal and he left Port Charles again.

In 2016, Chloe Lanier made her General Hospital debut in the role of vixen Nelle Benson. It was not her first appearance on the show, however; in 2015, she had played the role of Young Pat Spencer (older sister of Luke and Bobbie) in the show's Daytime Emmy-winning flashback episode exploring the tragic events that led to Luke accidentally killing his parents. Lanier explained to Soap Opera Digest, "I had been talking to [Casting Director] Mark Teschner and Frank [Valentini, executive producer], back and forth, for over a year, just trying to see what would be a good fit, and it finally worked out in the past few months with this character that I really wanted to play. I had just gotten done doing Kingdom [as Chelsea], which I had so much fun doing and I hope to go back, but it kind of just all worked out to where I was free, they offered the role to me and we were able to work out a great deal. And I’m having such a fun time here!”

In 2024 on Days of Our Lives, Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn, c.) and Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford), who were trying to investigate the possibility that Abigail Deveraux DiMera — Chad's wife and Jack's daughter — might actually be alive, encountered a mystery woman played by AnnaLynne McCord, and they confronted her with a bracelet that Chad had found in the room and recognized as having belonged to Abigail. In time, Chad and Jack came to believe that a miracle had occurred and that Abigail was alive (albeit amnesiac), but it was ultimately revealed that the woman was actually Cat Greene, a woman who had been forced to pose as Abigail.
