GH’s Jason Came to Liz’s Rescue, Y&R’s Mariah Gave Birth and More Soap Moments from August 27

In 1999, General Hospital's Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) came to Elizabeth Webber's (Rebecca Herbst) rescue at Jake's. Awash in grief over Lucky, who at the time was presumed dead, Elizabeth had gone to Jake's to shake off her memories of her first love, and when a stranger hit on her, she was receptive at first. But when Liz declined his request to dance with her, the man became aggressive and began pulling her outside the bar. Enter Jason, who quickly dispatched of the jerk. Liz wound up opening up to Jason, and an emotional connection was born.

In 2012, Ian Buchanan (pictured with Kathleen Gati as Dr. Liesl Obrecht) returned to GH — not as Duke Lavery, but as Cesar Faison, who was masquerading as Duke in the hopes of seducing Anna Devane, Duke's widow. Buchanan told Soap Opera Digest of the mask of his face, "When I saw it for the first time, I was like, 'Wow. That looks kind of like my father. Why wouldn't you do a younger mask?' I sat for that getting layer after layer of one thing or another, latex and everything else. It got very heavy and it was very hot it took almost an hour. Two young ladies had their pinky fingers holding my nostrils open so I could breathe. It was very Hollywood." He added that while he had fun playing Faison-as-Duke, "It got a little creepy for me."

In 2015, The Necktie Killer (ultimately revealed to be Ben Weston) began his murder spree, offing Serena Mason (Melissa Archer), on Days of Our Lives. Said Archer of her departure from the show, which she had joined in 2014, “I completely understood and somewhere, expected it. It was a very positive experience. I joke about it like, ‘Getting fired, it didn’t really feel like it.’ It was the most pleasant ‘getting fired’ conversation I’ve ever had. There was laughter. It was great, actually.”

In 2021 on Young and Restless, Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) gave birth to a baby boy, Dominic, with the help of Devon (Bryton James) and Abby (Melissa Ordway). Devon was the tot's biological father, and Mariah was carrying the child as a surrogate for Abby (who had fertility struggles) and her husband at the time, Chance. Alas, during Mariah's pregnancy, she was kidnapped and held hostage in a cabin by Abby's mentally unwell ex, Dr. Ben "Stitch" Rayburn. Eventually, Stitch led Abby to the cabin, with Devon showing up shortly thereafter. By that point, Mariah was in the throes of labor. With Nate coaching them via the phone, Devon and Abby talked Mariah through the birth, and baby Dominic made his memorable entrance.

In 2024 on Days of Our Lives, Brady Black turned himself into the cops and confessed that he was responsible for the hit-and-run accident that left Sarah Horton paralyzed. While he believed this to be true, Brady was not, in fact, the culprit. Brady had been inebriated at the time the vehicle he was in struck Sarah, but he wasn't driving — Xander Cook's mother, Fiona, was. Noted Eric Martsolf, who plays Brady, in an interview with Soap Opera Digest at the time, "Given the predicaments that Brady has been in, more than ever he’s at his wit’s end and he’s definitely not thinking rationally. He’s very much assuming, much to his family and his father’s chagrin, that he’s guilty of this crime. He doesn’t want to listen to the evidence. He doesn’t want to listen to anybody’s story about it. He’s pretty much convinced himself that he’s a horrible guy. He got drunk again, he got behind the wheel, he mowed down a family member in the process and there’s no coming back from this.” Brady refused to budge about turning himself in even when his father, John Black, begged him to reconsider. Explained Martsolf, "Brady’s philosophy is, 'What kind of dad would I be if I tried to get myself out of this through some slick attorney and some slick legal moves? That’s not the kind of man I want to be to my kids, Dad.' That’s basically what he said to John, and John pleaded with him not to jump to the conclusion that he’s guilty. John’s been around long enough to know that it’s not always black and white. Maybe there’s a gray area here, something he’s not seeing. But Brady’s got very dark-tinted glasses on as far as what happened. He sees it only one way, that he is the villain in this."
