Y&R Exclusive: Hayley Erin and Michael Mealor on Kyle’s Contract With Victor
Things didn’t go well when Kyle finally told Claire the truth about what happened between him and Audra in France on Young and Restless, but that wasn’t the only thing he was keeping from his girlfriend. Claire was still reeling from Kyle’s confession — and his attempt to make things right by proposing to her — when she learned that her beau still had another secret, and it’s a doozy!
Dealbreaker
Kyle tried desperately to prove to Victor that he was worthy of his granddaughter, which led to him signing a contract that he would pay Victor five million dollars and leave town if he broke Claire’s heart. She was upset to learn that Kyle hadn’t told her the whole truth about Audra, so how will she react when she finds out about the deal he struck with Victor?
“I think he still thinks that that decision is something that Claire will see as a kind of romantic gesture, if you will,” Michael Mealor (Kyle) tells Soap Opera Digest with a chuckle. “I think he believes that Claire will see that as a proclamation of his love. That it isn’t a game that he was playing, it was more of, ‘Look, I love this woman so much that I’m willing to do this and willing to sacrifice not only money, but my life in Genoa City with my family. I will give up all that for her.’ And I think he still sees that as a romantic gesture.”
The question is, will Claire see it that way, or will she be unable to get past the fact that this was yet one more thing that Kyle was keeping from her? “On the one hand, it is, in theory, very romantic, and it’s a big commitment,” Hayley Erin (Claire) allows. “It’s a huge act of devotion. But on the other hand, she has asked him about it a few times, and he has continuously deflected.”
This latest lie could prove to be the last straw for the beleaguered couple. “If I’m in a relationship and I expect transparency from my partner, I’m going to be upset if I’m not getting that, even if it’s something that, on the face of it, is a nice idea,” she explains. “Why can’t I be trusted to know what my partner knows? I always think of it like, we’re not really living in the same reality. If you know things that I don’t know, then we’re not on the same page here, and I, at least, can’t make educated decisions if I’m not educated.”
