What Happened Between Britt and Cody on General Hospital? Their Relationship History Explained
Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) and Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) shared a booze-fueled kiss on the December 4 episode of General Hospital — one he quickly pulled back from, given that his heart has been pulled squarely in Molly Lansing-Davis’s (Kristen Vaganos) direction. Cody shutting down Britt’s advances is quite the reversal from what their storyline looked like when they were first in one another’s orbits. Need a refresher about their shared GH past? Splash Into Me
It was on June 1, 2022 that Cody first entered Britt’s orbit. She was on the Metro Court pool deck during a mixer hosted by Society Setups, the online matchmaking service for upwardly mobile professionals that her mom, Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) had signed her up for. Britt’s love life had been in the dumps for quite some time, and she was particularly smarting from the presumed death the previous year of the last guy to catch her eye, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton). It took some coaxing, but eventually, Britt had agreed to check out her matches. At the mixer, Britt overindulged in alcohol and wound up making a spectacle of herself. She was in the midst of a loud rant about how finding “the one” is a myth when the sound of an approaching plane began to drown her out. A man parachuted out of the aircraft and knocked into Britt, sending her flying into the pool along with him!
That man was none other than Cody. Britt was not only soaked, but outraged — and she demanded that Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) arrest the interloper. Dante immediately recognized Cody as a buddy from his summer camp days. Soon, the gif Britt’s BFF, Brad (Parry Shen), made of Britt’s tirade and subsequent imitation of a drown rat went viral, adding insult to injury for the doc, who was steamed when she ran into Cody and showed her the footage online. Unamused, she accused him of nearly killing her with his skydiving stunt.

Playing With Matches
Their next encounter took place after Cody got beaten up by Selina Wu’s (Lydia Look) bodyguard after losing her money in a poker game. Britt happened upon him in an alley and rushed him to the hospital. Cody, who was attracted to Britt and undeterred by her insistence that he wasn’t her type, used his knowledge of Spinelli’s (Bradford Anderson) sketchy involvement with Society Setups to strong-arm him into getting Britt to give the service another go, and to match Britt with Cody! Britt was taken aback when she found out she had matched with Cody, but agreed to go on a date with him.
Their date, which took place at the Quartermaine stables, did not go well; not only did she not cotton to Comet, the horse Cody had taken a shine to, but Cody stuck his foot in his mouth talking about wanting kids, which upset Britt given that she was secretly struggling with knowing that she had the marker for Huntington’s disease. The disaster of a date infuriated Britt to the point that she threatened to sue Society Setups.
Soon — and despite warnings from both Maxie (Kirsten Storms) and Spinelli that Cody might not be trustworthy — Britt softened and, in the face of Cody’s repeated efforts to wear down her resistance, she agreed to give Cody another chance.

Happily Never After
Opposite this, Cody — whose mother is Dominique Baldwin, Scott Baldwin’s (Kin Shriner) late wife — learned that his biological father was Mac Scorpio (John J. York). Cody concealed this information with dollar signs in his eyes, as if Dom’s first husband, the nefarious Leopold Taub, was his father, he stood a chance of inheriting a diamond necklace worth a cool 35 million bucks. But as fate would have it, it was Britt who was in possession of that pricy jewelry, having discovered it among her late half brother Peter August’s (Wes Ramsey) personal effects. The more she learned about the potentially criminal lore behind the necklace, the less Britt wanted anything to do with it, while Cody coveted it and the fortune he stood to get his hands on from it.
In November, Britt got devastating news from a specialist: She had Stage 3 Huntington’s disease and only a few more years left to live. Alone in her office, she lashed out and collapsed in sobs after trashing her office, clutching the necklace in her hands. Cody walked in and tried to comfort Britt. Misinterpreting what was making her so upset, Cody thought Britt viewed the necklace as a burden and suggested she give it to him. She angrily accused him of caring only about the diamonds and not about her. She pressed the necklace into his hands and ordered him to get out — but before he could, Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) arrived with a warrant for the jewelry! Cody was foiled, but that didn’t change things for Britt, who hissed at him, “Don’t come back.”
Cody was sincere in his determination to try to win back Britt’s trust, even turning down a financial offer from Liesl to stay away from her daughter. When Cody overheard Britt telling Austin (Roger Howarth) that she was going to throw herself a birthday party, he angled for an invitation, but Britt snapped that he should focus on finding a new woman to grift, because they had no future.
A dejected Cody thought about leaving town, even as Maxie encouraged him to have faith that he could get back into Britt’s good graces. Little did anyone know that Britt was viewing her birthday party as a farewell party — she planned to slip out of Port Charles so that her loved ones would be spared the pain of watching her deteriorate due to her disease.
Cody and Britt were unexpectedly drawn back together on Christmas Eve when a pregnant stranger showed up at the Quartermaine mansion and went into labor. Cody called Britt to the scene, and she was able to deliver the woman’s baby girl. Even as he admitted to Dante that his pursuit of Britt had largely been about his quest to get the diamonds, Cody regretted his actions, lamenting that he hadn’t been a better friend to Britt. He then showed up at her office and poured his heart out to her, confessing that he had initially targeted her because he knew her late father, Cesar Faison, was connected to Leopold Taub. He even came clean about manipulating Spinelli into having Society Setups declare them a match.
For her part, Britt acknowledged that part of her was interested in seeing where things could go between her and Cody, but she insisted, “I can’t.” He pressed her, demanding to know why she was so determined not to get back together with him. Still hiding her medical condition, Britt simply told Cody that his visit meant a lot to her, and she walked out in tears. Alone in her office, Cody’s own emotions swelled.
Surrounded by family and friends at her birthday party, which fell on New Year’s Eve, Britt ended up reversing her decision to flee Port Charles. However, when she stumbled upon The Hook — better known as Heather Webber (Alley Mills) — attempting to off Josslyn (Eden McCoy), Britt sprang to action to save Joss’s life and ended up dying herself … or so it seemed until she was discovered very much alive in the summer of 2025.
At the beginning of 2023, Felicia () had the heavy task of breaking the sad news of Britt’s “death” to Cody. He was deeply shaken and upset, telling Felicia, “This is just so unbelievable…. As smart and as beautiful as Britt was, life never seemed to give her a break.” Cody eventually developed feelings for Sasha, who turned out to be his cousin … but that’s a whole other story!
